Two houses; two beds

I wake early
(no surprise.)
Sunlight peeks in
through the half circle window
above sage curtains.

You sleep quietly beside me,
pillow on your chest.
I roll over and put my arm across your chest.
You smile in half-sleep.
……………………………

I wake early
(no surprise.)
Sunlight slips
through the slats of blue blinds.

I stretch luxuriously and lie relaxed,
my thoughts wander,
enjoying the choice of whether to get up,
lie in bed, eyes closed, dozing,
(precious time not working),
pick up a book and read, or
listen to the radio.

I smile as I think of you,
sleeping quietly,
pillow on your chest,
six hours away.

I miss you,
yet savor my time as well.
