You say it’s your birthday
Well it’s my birthday too–yeah
You say it’s your birthday
We’re gonna have a good time
I’m glad it’s your birthday
Happy birthday to you.

Friday was Bill’s birthday (and mine is coming up mid-month, making the song almost true), so we took time out of the day to have lunch together at Naf Naf, http://www.nafnafgrill.com/, a Mediterranean restaurant with the perfect mix of delicious food and fast service. Even with many people getting take-out, it can be difficult to find a table, but we managed.
Bill had hummus with falafel and their famous fluffy pita bread:
I had a falafel pita, which obviously comes in a pita with hummus, Israeli salad and tahini, and we added a side of their homemade chips:
Part of Bill’s birthday gift was a mixed six-pack of beer from the Chicago area’s place to buy anything alcoholic, Binny’s, http://www.binnys.com/. The night’s selection was Anti-Hero IPA.
The gift that keeps on giving, at least for six night’s total. We had Old Brown Dog Ale tonight and it was really good.
Birthday dinner was salmon with a brown sugar mustard glaze, a Bobby Flay recipe, http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/bobby-flay/salmon-with-brown-sugar-and-mustard-glaze-recipe/index.html, asparagus and farro.
For dessert, we had chocolate frogs, a chance purchase which turned out to be delicious and just the right amount. The inside was a chocolate mousse that was not too sweet. They were almost too cute to eat. Almost.
Belated B’Day Greetings.
Thanks for sharing the feast. 🙂
I’ll tell Bill. The good thing about the feast is–no calories for you. 🙂
Happy Monday,
janet
Happy birthday to Bill and to you later this month.
Thanks!

Happy Birthday to Bill … I’m on love with this chocolate frogs ;o)
They’re so cute, aren’t they? And better than real frogs’ legs in my opinion. 🙂

Good morning,
I have already wished Bill a happy birthday – and now I wish you a happy birthday in advance.
You keep finding these amazing restaurants in your area which is terrific. Nice photos as usual.
What is an antihero IPA? Surely, that’s not Bill’s drink…
Anti-hero IPA is just the name of that particular beer, recommended by a guy at Binny’s. Bill likes light, hoppy beers, Belgian-ale types. It was good but not something we’d get again, although the can is way cool. The Old Brown Dog Ale was much nicer, especially for me, a dark beer-lover.
Hummus and pita…my kind of birthday ‘cake’.
Totally delish and healthy as well. But the little frogs were also very tasty. 🙂
Falafel eyeballs would work fine on the hummus and pita for me. 😉
Happy Birthdays (one early and one belated), Janet and Bill! I could smell the food when I looked at your photos, Janet–and that dessert, a yummy-fun ending to a celebratory meal.
It was all good and having friends drop in, before or after the fact, makes it better. Thanks for stopping by and hope your week’s off to a great start. Hi to Sammy.

Green beer (well, beer in a green can) and Guinness-brown frogs – Chicago is a confusing place. 😉 Seriously, it all looks yummy, and happy birthday to both of you!
I would have preferred Guinness, but experimentation is good, too. Soon it will be green beer time everywhere.
True!
