Wow! Can’t believe I forgot to check my email for the photo challenge. That’s what happens when I get distracted by the fun of Skyping with my best friend. 🙂 The theme this week is “Horizon” and here’s my entry, two very different horizons I enjoyed recently.

Wow the first one is amazing. It looks like there’s a tornado.
It was an incredible sunset, Steve, that had my running for my iPad and taking a lot of shots. Glad you liked it, too.

Whoa, the sunset looks like something out of the Wizard of Oz. Incredible.
The colors were incredible, but the part that looked like a tornado was something I haven’t seen before.

I like both of these photos very much!
Thanks very much. 🙂

Fab shots! I actually like the second a wee bit better 🙂
Thanks, Madhu. They’re so different that it’s difficult to compare them. It may depend upon what mood you’re in. Either way, I’m glad you like them.
janet
great colours!
Thanks, Chris. Hope you’re enjoying your Friday.

I am!
I like the first the best, because of the cloud formations. They must have been grand live.
They were stunning, Sally. Funnily, we had a friend over a few weeks ago and he said, “I got some great shots of a sunset on my phone.” When he showed them to me, I recognized the sunset immediately. The little tornado cloud formation was the give-away. 🙂
Wonderful shots, Janet. I really like both of them. The colors in the first are amazing and then I love the end-grain of that log with the lake (?) and island in the background. Nice composition!
Cathy
Cathy, I appreciate your comment on the composition of the second as that was something I was striving to get. The water is San Francisco Bay. We were on our way to Muir Woods when we stopped and I saw this shot. As for the sunset, how can you go wrong when God sets up the photo op so perfectly?? 🙂
Enjoy the weekend!

You too! My birthday is this weekend and we’re going down to Denver to have a great dinner and see the “Book of Mormon” tonight. Should be really fun!
Happy birthday and have a blast.
Both very beautiful!
Thank, Julie. Hope you have a wonderful weekend.

Both are beautiful, first one is stunning.
I was truly stunned by the beauty of that sunset but thankfully not to the point where I couldn’t run out and get some pictures. It’s one of the most spectacular I’ve ever seen and I’m glad to be able to do it justice.
janet
They’re both beautiful, though the first one is stunningly so. Well done Janet.
Nice that you could barge in, Sandra. 🙂 Thanks and enjoy whatever you have planned for the weekend.
janet
you too!
Fantastic shots Janet! Congrats.
Thanks very much. That sunset was just calling my name…and that of any other photographer within reach!
janet
Such a unique sunset! No matter how many sky songs you watch, they are all so different.
Love the cool and texture of the second one.
Sunsets and rises are shots that can be taken day after day after day and always be lovely. I’m glad you liked the shots. Thanks for stopping in. I happened on your blog today and remember your name from ‘way back when I started my blog. Nice to connect again and know you’re still around.

Lovely shots Janet! I do so love sunsets / rises – so many folks out there don’t even notice them – but anyone who has an intimate relationship with their camera (or iphone or ipad) does, so thank you for capturing this one. I do also like the second one very much, love the close up of the log end juxtaposed with the landscape in the distance, very nice!
Hi, Nancy. Glad you could stop by. I love sunsets but this one was particularly spectacular and I’m glad I was within reach of my iPad (which I almost always am.) About the time I don’t have the iPad or a camera with me, I see shot that it kills me not to be able to take. Another reason to get an iPhone, I guess. I’m glad you like the second one because, although it’s not as showy as the first, I like it for the same reason you mentioned.
Enjoy the weekend!
janet
I think I like it because the shape of the log echoes the shape of the hills behind. Very nice shot!
Lovely!
Thanks, Livvy!

I love both photos, but my goodness that sunset is spectacular.
It was one of the very best, if not the best, I’ve ever seen. Glad I could pass it on and have it come out so well! Thanks for stopping in.
janet
Beautiful horizons!
Glad you liked them. That sunset might be one of the more original ones I’ve seen. 🙂
janet
Both are extraordinary. What a beautiful world we live in.
It’s so true. There is beauty in the large things and beauty in the small things. We just have to keep our eyes open and look!
Enjoy looking this weekend!
janet
Enjoy yours as well.

Beautiful
Thanks. I’m happy you like them.
janet
I did 🙂
WOW !
I love that response. 🙂 Thanks.
janet
Lovely! I especially like the first one! Love the colors — so magical! It’s as though taken from a Harry Potter movie. 🙂
🙂 It was rather magical. Thanks for visiting. I’m glad you could share in the beauty.
janet
Beautiful colours in the first one and an intriguing landscape in the second!
Thanks, Paula, and thanks for visiting. The Photo Challenges are great because I get a change to see so many wonderful photos by talented photographers. Enjoy your weekend!

I really like your second shot with the fallen log in the foreground.
Thanks, Colline. I know it’s not as spectacular as the first, but I really liked it, too.
janet
Love the colours in your first photo.
Many thanks and, as I said, good to hear from you.
janet
And you
Taking good shots of the sky in a suburban environment is not an easy thing to do! I’m usually plagued by telephone poles and power lines messing up the shot. But you captured great color and cloudscapes in the first shot. Awesome!
I was fortunate because it was behind the house and there aren’t all those obstructions there. Glad you liked it!
janet
Those are some unreal skylines! Such colors… It’s like something out of a dream.
It really was, Hannah, fortunately a good dream. 🙂

It was truly beautiful and probably the best sunset I’ve ever seen. Thanks for stopping by.
janet

Thanks, kz. I really love that one, too, and was happy to have a chance to use it.
