Christmas lights

Driving around looking at Christmas lights is one of the things we enjoy doing each year. Naperville has lots of amazing lights and we saw a number on Saturday night. Unfortunately, it was raining, but I hope they’ll get your Christmas spirit going anyway.

Our Christmas service is at 5 pm (I’m singing a duet of “Mary, Did  You Know” and wearing yet another hat), then we’ll have food and drink with friends, deliver the last bike for our 2Wheels2Kids project (four total for our first year–not bad), maybe see some more lights, then end the evening at home, listening to a reading of the Christmas story and opening the gifts in our stockings.  Then it will be off to bed, filled with anticipation for the joy and excitement of Christmas Day.

May your Christmas Eve be filled with anticipation and love.

  1. I watched the Great Christmas Light Fight. It was a competition of who can create the best Christmas light show. These people used thousands of lights, music and regular decorations. Fabulous. I don’t know if you can get it on demand, it was on ABC it worth a watch.

  2. Beautiful lights Janet. My best wishes to you and your family this Christmas, hope you all have a good one.
It is Christmas for us tomorrow!!! All very exciting.

Best wishes for you and yours from here… 🙂 🙂

  4. Your photos are wonderful, Janet. The wet makes them shimmer and sparkle even more. Merry Christmas.

I still remember when my brother and I would enjoy Christmas lights at houses along rhe eight mile ride home from my Grandfather’s house on Christmas Eve each yer. We have a pretty good display this year, all tied into a timer to make sure they come on when we are not here at dark. I want to learn more about your 2Wheels2Kids program. I think I showed you some of the pictures of all the bikes I saw in Belize last year. The children use bikes to cut down their walking.

    • Joe, if you go to the website for 2Wheels2Kids, you’ll get all the information. Basically, we bought three bikes ourselves while starting the foundation, opened a bank account so that any donations could go there, got one donation large enough to buy another bike and so will have four bikes donated this year. Two were by check and the parent will buy the bike, then send a photo for the site. Two are in our area. It’s exciting to be a part of something like this. I don’t know how big it will get, but hopefully we can keep doing at least a few bikes per Christmas.

Have a blessed, joy-filled Christmas, Joe.

This is the kind of idea I love Janet. I wonder if you have heard of the website where you can offer t-shirts to those supporting and the money raised through t-shirt sales can be used to support your cause? I am thinking about that for the tutor center in Belize I support. I will put together a series of blogs promoting it to see if I can generate some interest.

We always drive around and look at lights too. Also, there is a local amusement park (Lakemont Park in Altoona) that does a huge (I think it’s like 50 acres or somewhere thereabouts) light display that you drive through that is pretty awesome. I highly recommend checking it out some year if you’re passing through central PA to/from Philly again around Christmas.

I’m working on a contraption that’ll use a mini computer to sync my lights to music. I was hoping to be done with it this year, but that didn’t happen so probably next year.

    Anyway, have a wonderful Christmas!

    • That light display sounds amazing, Adam. There’s a tree farm along I-76 that has a large display, too, but I went past it during the morning on the way back, so I missed the beauty.

You and your family have a wonderful Christmas as well.

  7. It sounds like a perfect way to spend the holiday. Merry Christmas, Janet!

  8. The holiday lights glittering in the cold night air are definitely my favorite part of Christmas. Such beautiful pictures… Hope you have a very happy holiday!

  9. I find Christmas lights to be such a challenge at times – I think these look great! Merry Christmas!

That first photo is just spectacular !

  11. Going around and seeing christmas lights in my view is one of the most magical things to do at Christmas💚

What do you think? I'd love to hear your thoughts on this, that or the other thing.
