I wrote this a few days ago as I was cleaning up the yard. Very different meaning tonight. Both meanings apply. It might be appropriate in the US that a definite chill has arrived tonight as tomorrow is tax day.
Winter detritus
Clings tenaciously to earth
Hides burgeoning life
“Spring is the time of year when it is summer in the sun and winter in the shade.”
~ Charles Dickens, “Great Expectations”
(Or summer in the morning and winter at night.)
Winter is holding on tight.
That it is!
On the news this morning they told us to expect snow this evening. Yesterday was almost 70 degrees.
It was the same here–beautiful on Sunday, snow last night.

Oh no, I hope the snow disappears. Maybe Mr. Winter has no calendar?
Maybe it’s off by a month or so. I think he needs a smartphone to tell him what’s going on! I’m sure there’s an app for that.

That’s beautiful Janet.
Thanks. The snow is beautiful, too, but I’m worried about whether it will have broken the spring flowers that were already open. And I’m ready for spring now.

Great post Janet – really love the quote, which I hadn’t seen before. Also LOVE the rainy shot–wonderful composition. Nicely done.
Quotes are fodder for our posts, aren’t they, Tina? I love looking for quotes about a certain thing and can easily get lost in all that shows up. I imagine you’re the same way as you always have wonderful quotes in your posts. I’m glad the rainy shot came out well. It’s sometimes difficult with a phone or iPad to get the focus in the right place. They always want to focus passed the (to me) obvious point of interest. 🙂
Beautiful daffodils, Janet. I hope you picked them before the frost got to them.
Unfortunately, I didn’t. They were frozen solid this morning. I just checked on them and although I would have thought they’d be completely gone, a few are still standing. We’ll see if any more recover. I think that all the ones that haven’t opened yet should be good as long as we don’t get a bad frost tonight.
Lovely photos. 😀
Thanks, Raewyn. Most of the flowers appear to be bowing now, but there are a few that are still upright, so I’ll enjoy those.

Janet ! – you’ve outdone yourself here … GLORIOUS images to support your title. Oh, well done you !!!
Awwww, thanks, M.R. So glad you like them!
Beautiful photos — in spite of the snow! 🙂
Snow is often beautiful, too, just not so much at this time of year.

Your photos and verse are just beautiful, Janet.
Thanks so much, Gina. I’m glad you enjoyed the haiku as well as the photos.

Mother Nature still have her menopausal outburst.
Love the first photo of those darling flowers. XD
“Menopausal outburst” is a great phrase for it, Isadora! Hopefully she’s done now.

One never know do one … lol
Actually, here in Florida we don’t enjoy her brutally HOT summers or her hurricane antics … BUT … paradise does have its’ price. XD
No-see-um’s, high humidity, alligators, etc. 🙂
great photos – and loved this “in the US that a definite chill has arrived tonight as tomorrow is tax day.” ha! well said, well said. 🙂
