Weekly Photo Challenge: Twist

All around the world as I write this, photographers are hunched over their laptops/computers/tablets/phones, refreshing frantically, waiting for the Weekly Photo Challenge theme to be posted.  How do I know?  I’m one of them.

And the final answer is…..(waiting…waiting…waiting…)?

Half an hour.  An hour.  Ahhh, there it is.  I can hear the cheers from every country.

“Twist.”  Very apropos.  Just took this photo at the post office this morning.  Not sure if this qualifies as airmail or if the goose just mailed something, but it was certainly a twist on the usual crowd there.

  1. Funny introduction and hilarious picture… great entry!

    Love your picture!

    • Thanks, Japp. I was just leaving the post office and heard honking. When I looked up, there was the goose, standing on top of the post office holding forth very loudly. Too good to pass up! 🙂

Cute!! These little goosies show up everywhere.

    • There are a couple goose families foraging around the post office, but I haven’t seen one of the parents on the roof until yesterday. The big problem with geese is that their goose poop comes with them and stays everywhere.

I wonder if they are nesting up on the roof?

    • I don’t think so (although I don’t know that for certain) because I’ve seen several families in the grassy areas around the post office. The little ones wouldn’t be able to get to and from the roof. Maybe all the kids just got on this one’s nerves and s/he had to get away for a bit. 🙂

I like your intro, describing us, waiting for another goose to tell us which topic to upload, maybe we should quit this weekly procedure!

    • Frizz, it’s definitely an addiction, isn’t it? An enjoyable one, but an addiction nevertheless. I’m just happy if the theme is posted at the same time each Friday, no matter the time. But since the changeover to the new format, something’s been off almost every week. I’m sure it’s lots of work and I appreciate all the WP people do. But I find it frustrating that there’s nowhere you can go directly for suggestions or complaints.

      Enjoy the weekend!

but, Janet, maybe I have the power to cut this addiction, inspired by your words. I believe, many of us have enough ideas to write and do not need an advice on every late or later Friday afternoon.

      • I think the same thing, Frizz. If I get involved in too many challenges, enjoyable as they are, I don’t have time to write what I like or to showcase my photos the way I want to. Might be fun just to have a clearing house like the one WP puts up for the challenges where people just posted a teaser and link to something they did that week that they think other mights like to read, as one of the reason to participate in something like this is to see what others are doing. But I can’t begin to follow the blogs of everyone whose photos I view during the challenge.

I’ve been mulling over the same thoughts you express. I participate in a weekly flash fiction writing challenge which I love, but is getting to have so many members that it takes much time to read the stories. Have to decide on priorities soon.

      • frizztext says:

We have to decide on priorities: not the quantity of contacts, but the quality. Where do I receive the best quality of comments, where I like to comment back with pleasure? I enjoy the little community participating my Tuesday’s “A to Z” challenge. And, as a guitarist, I like my soundcloud. I noticed that neither politics nor my speciality (philosophy) can find a comfortable home in a personal blog. Sharing fun and new ideas: not really effective by the Friday orders = too much regulation, too much hidden dirigisme by stereotyped approach to photography.

  6. What is it doing there?

    • Who knows? It was making a lot of noise, which caused me to notice it. Maybe the goslings were driving it crazy and it needed some adult time away. 🙂

… nice view from up there…

  8. Hahaha, that’s exactly what I was doing over here too. F5 F5 F5, supper, F5… TWIST 😀
This is most certainly a twist, Janet. You have to twist your head to look up, and then there’s a goose at the post office. Nice one!

    • Thanks, Marion. I read your response to my comment this morning and although it’s always good to see you here, it’s good to know you have your priorities right and the internet and photo challenge aren’t at the top of the list! Hope your weekend’s off to a great start.

    • While I was taking the shot, a couple walking to their car commented on what a great photo that would make. Thank goodness for phone cameras. 🙂

    How weird! Good choice Janet!

  11. Ruth says:

I remember one time a while back, the challenge never arrived. Some people made up their own while they waited. It was very frustrating. I enjoyed reading your blog post about waiting for the WPC.

    • Good morning, Ruth. There have been a number of frustrating things since the new format was instituted. I try to remember that these are just people who have real lives, too, and that things go wrong. I wonder whether they’re volunteers or if they get paid. Either way, trying to make light of it as I did in my opening is probably the best way. Thanks for stopping by and I’m glad you enjoyed the post.

      • Ruth says:

Good morning to you Janet. I am the worst comment replier in the blogospeherI think but this morning is a holiday weekend and I am in the sun on my porch. Surely the WPC contributors of the challenge must be paid. But I don’t know.
I teach high school photography and my daughter suggested I take the words and put them in a jar and a student could pull out a challenge word and create a photo from the inspiration. I am going to try it for next year as this one is almost finished.
Thanks for your nice response and I did enjoy your post.

Goose mail? Loved it! It did make me wonder however if this type of delivery is more dependable but who knows … quite liked this take on this tweek’s photo challenge. Thanks for sharing 🙂
