Photos may be considered “oddball” for a variety of reasons, but no matter the reason, it’s fun to look through my photos to decide which ones to feature. And it’s always enjoyable to see what others have shared.
I offer a still life of kitchen detritus, the aftermath of cooking…the stem of a mushroom with some gills that tore out as well, the shiny lining of an eggshell catching the light, the skin of a red onion. As I learned many years ago when I found myself unexpectedly cooking lunches at a rather nice restaurant in Steamboat Springs, Colorado, that eggshell liner has a practical use as well. I’d cut the edge of my left wrist with the tip of my chef’s knife and was staunching the blood when the chef took an egg, cracked it and peeled that liner away. He then applied it to the cut and lo and behold, it worked just like a bandage. Hopefully you’ll never need to put the knowledge into use, but just in case…
So cheers to the oddball photo! Long may it live!
The portabello stem makes the shot, Janet. Very unique image indeed.
Thanks, Koji. I’m happy you enjoyed it.

Great photos. Interesting about the egg liner. Thanks for the tip. 😀
That’s a tip that can come in handy, Raewyn. When you’re cooking for a living, knife cuts happen!

You said it was a mushroom but I couldn’t figure it out until you mentioned the egg and onion skin. 🙂
Mushroom stem and part of the gills but it looks different away from the rest of the mushroom!

Very creative! Now I have to step my game up (correct English?) 😉 Thanks for the inspiration! And than you for visiting my blog.
“Step up my game” would be correct. What a lovely compliment, Helen. Thanks and thank you for visiting as well. One of the things I love about blogging is meeting so many new, nice people.

Awesome us of an egg… who knew? I guess that chef did. 🙂
And I was glad he did!

I love photos of mushrooms! Your mushroom looks like some sort of strange creature. Thanks for the egg liner tip. I would never have known about it. Now, I hope I never need to use it. 🙂
I hope you never do, either, Lisa. I’ve never used it since but you never know.
