No idea what it is, but it’s definitely alive. Megan and I were sitting on the porch of the rec hall waiting for the laundry to get done and there he/she was. Pretty cool!
Oh god, please tell me that isn’t alive, or to scale, or even real. I don’t care what the truth is, I just don’t want to know that this insect could really be out there in the world! I think I might have nightmares now…

It’s icky but is fascinating to look at. It has so many things to see on it’s body. The texture, the varied colors and shapes create a lovely pattern. I’m fascinated with the littlle fella but I’m glad it’s a photo. : )

It seems to be the largest beetle ever known to mankind ! But I do think it’s a ground beetle, and perhaps simply shot fairly close up, eh, Janet ? 🙂
It was shot close up, but it was big, probably about 2″.

Amazing creature, the detail is phenomenal. The diversity in the bug population has never ceased to surprise me.
You’re right, Charlie, about the diversity. This guy was quite attractive, I thought, at least in color.
