Autumn in the park

In the two and a half weeks I was gone, autumn arrived in “my” park.  Most of the flowers are gone and trees have taken over the color scheme.  Nights are chilly and mornings, when I walk, crisp.  Geese float on the river, taking off in honking groups.  A few days ago, the only walker on the path, I encountered a buck which suddenly stepped onto the path not far ahead of me.  We both stopped, eye the other, but as I reached slowly for my phone (camera), he bounded off.

We have had our summer evenings, now for October eves!”

“But then fall comes, kicking summer out on its treacherous ass as it always does one day sometime after the midpoint of September, it stays awhile like an old friend that you have missed. It settles in the way an old friend will settle into your favorite chair and take out his pipe and light it and then fill the afternoon with stories of places he has been and things he has done since last he saw you.”
~Stephen King, Salem’s Lot

  1. Stunning photos. Love the autumn colours. 😍💕

    • Isn’t it odd to think that we’re into autumn while you’re in spring? Even understanding the science and reality of it doesn’t take away the amazement for me.

The first photo is just amazing!

    • It doesn’t even look as great as the actual tree did and it’s a good thing I caught it then, as today there are many less leaves and it’s only a few days later.

  3. I love the colours of autumn and you’ve caught them beautifully!

  4. All the photos are lovely but the first one is like a big yellow fall umbrella where you could park a chair, grab a hot cup of coffee, and read a few chapters in a good book. 🙂

  5. My wife and i just got back last week from 10 days in New England leaf peeping. It was wonderful.

  6. Glorious! Autumn equals Spring in my list of favourite seasons. We’ve lost some of our autumn colour due to the wind tearing the leaves from the branches.

    • Joanna, from one day to another, I never know how many leaves I’ll see. The tree in the first photo had many less leaves two days later, so I take a photo whenever I can.

  7. There’s the artist’s eye!
    These are all beautiful, Janet.

  8. Spectacular color. If only my autumn days were full of such sunlight and vibrancy, the colder days would be much more tolerable! I wish I could live inside this picture right now.

  9. So beautiful!!
(and I didn’t know this Camus-quote, but it’s so true!)
