The Weekly Photo Challenge theme of “Gone but not forgotten” is the perfect opportunity for me to share the horse love of my life, Sunday. By next summer, she will in all probability have been put down, having reached the venerable horse age of 30+. I’ll miss her enthusiasm, speed, and willingness to go anywhere while always giving her best. If you know horses, you know the joy of having a horse you never have to urge to go faster and is beautiful besides. Sunday, there’s not another one like you. Thanks for all the wonderful times and memories.
A friend of mine is having difficulty getting a pingback from WordPress, so I’m going to share her link with you here. We went similar places this year, although with different animals. To see Sandra’s entry, click on her name and thanks!
Here’s another friend with the same problem, but great photos: Chris in Holland.
Janet- this is a happy/sad thought. Enjoy your dear friend. She is beautiful in many ways.

Thanks, Jane. She’s a winner!
Love the name of your horse 🙂 Sunday is my fav day of the week, for the reflection of the week ahead…
Swav, Sunday’s my favorite day, too, for starting the week with church and worship as well as time with my husband.

Such joy emanating from the two of you. A beautiful and uplifting interpretation of this week’s challenge. Thank you for the Light. Blessings, Michele
My pleasure to share, Michele. Lovely to hear from you as always. I hope you’re finding comfort in these difficult days.

Oh, how very beautiful, but sad. I don’t know too much about horses. Why will she have to be put down? I’m assuming that she’s very old and she will succumb to an illness?
She’s old and her teeth aren’t very good, so she has trouble eating. I think it’s a bit like people who get old without any discernible disease but their bodies just run down. It’s more humane for a horse to be put down than to just die of old age.
janet
Thanks for explaining it to me, Janet. I hope she lives a healthy, happy life until the time comes for her to humanely pass on.
she is ( was ) a good horse. Which is about as good an eulogy as I can imagine.
“She did what was asked of her willingly” is another.
and never let Lad get past her no matter how much I urged him!
a beautiful moment to cherish until the last minute. Then, it’ll be beautiful memories to cherish forever. She is beautiful. You both are together.
Aww, thanks so much. I have hundreds of wonderful memories that will last forever.
janet
I know how you must feel.

Beautiful, you two!
I have goosebumps as I read these sweet and heartfelt thoughts to your very special horse..
She was always ready to go and never really ready to stop. Can’t beat that for a horse. And she was beautiful besides. 🙂
janet
Beautiful and sad, a lovely response to the challenge.
Thanks much!

I love horses. Never had one of my own, but wanted an Appaloosa badly as a child. Sunday, what a great name.
It’s really a nickname based on her registered name which I don’t recall right now, as we always called her Sunday.

Sunday is beautiful. Hugs, pets and carrots:) xx
She can’t eat carrots anymore, her teeth are too bad. 😦 I saw her this summer but don’t expect to next year.
janet
I wish animals could live as long as humans. I apologize for bringing ip carrots. xx
It’s the thought that counts and I’m sure she can eat virtual carrots!
I can’t imagine…after 30 years…
We didn’t own her the entire time (and she’s now living out her life with friends) but I rode her many summers over many places in the mountains.
janet
Thank you for sharing such a beautiful memory, and magnificent friendship. It must be difficult to let such a close companion go after all of those years.
It is, Hannah.
janet
She is a beauty, it is so sad to have to say goodbye and let go.
Very true. She’s beautiful inside and out.
janet
Never ever forget… That is a beautiful memory, Janet. 😢 Perpetua
Lots and lots of them, Perpetua.
So sweet – and what a gift to have had that mutual love and trust for so many years.
Thanks. It was.
janet
That’s sad.
My sister used to have 2 horses. She loved them and I remember her crying for weeks when our circumstances changed and we had to give them away.
I completely understand, Hanni. I know that the people that have Sunday now won’t allow her to suffer and are taking great care of her, even feeding her special food that she can eat with bad teeth. They love her, too.

Dear Janet,
I’ve never been a horse person. But seeing them through my daughter in law’s eyes has given me a new appreciation. Sunday sounds very special. Sorry I never got to meet her but feel that I have through you.
Blessings and shalom,
Rochelle
Rochelle, she was/is very special and I miss her. I’m glad you’ve enjoyed getting to know her just a bit (after all, you see her all the time on my gravatar!) 🙂
I’m so sorry to hear that Janet. I’ve been a horse person all my life and the day my guy had to be put down was one of the toughest. Love your picture together!
You understand, Jill.
janet
She is truly a beauty. I hope the end is farther away than we think.
Always cherished, never forgotten. ❤
Definitely, Marion.
Enjoy your weekend.

A beautiful photo and memorie!
Many, many memories, Jaap, and all good.
janet
She is one special horse, that fact shines through when you write about her. It will be heartbreaking for you when her time does come, but over time, you will be able to look back on the wonderful memories you made together, and they will sustain you.
Barb, I’ll feel bad, but it won’t be devastating. As you say, I have many great memories. Thanks.

What a beautiful, graceful looking creature Janet. 30 years is amazing – lucky you, and lucky her!
It’s been a good run, both literally and figuratively, Tina. Couldn’t ask for more.

God gives us such rich experiences through our interactions with domesticated animals – big and small. Pray that you will have a peace when the times comes to say goodbye, Janet.
Thanks, Chuck. I’m at peace with her passing, whenever it comes, and will always have many good memories and stories of our times together. Just thankful God saw fit to put her in my world.
janet
What a wonderful and Sad entry. Gorgeous photo of you both.
Many thanks, Imelda. 🙂 She’s had a good life and blessed me so much, so I’m content.
janet
Oh, by “sad” I mean the story behind it. Just to be clear. 🙂
what could you do more for the horse than writing ” I’ll miss her enthusiasm, speed, and willingness to go anywhere while always giving her best.”
Greetings from
You’re so right, Frizz. Thanks for dropping by. As I said, I’ve missed you.

Sorry you won’t have Sunday with you forever (which is what most animal lovers would wish for) but enjoy the time you have left. And of course you should take photos and more photos because she is quite beautiful 🙂
That photo is a bit old. I took a few photos this summer, probably her last. Her beauty now is that of a grande dame with good bones.
