Welcome to the first Monday of 2015!  That means it’s time once again for nature photographs taken with non-camera cameras.  Sometimes nature is found in unusual places in the city, as in my photo for today.  Sometimes you simply need to look closely to see where nature is hiding in plain sight.  And even in winter, when all seems to be brown and empty, there’s beauty to be found.

Live in each season as it passes; breathe the air, drink the drink, taste the fruit, and resign yourself to the influence of the earth.
~Henry David Thoreau, Walden

  1. A single dried hydrangea–seems like so much more. These kinds of discoveries bring momentary and sustained joy. Nicely done. Happy Photo Challenge.

    • Greetings from frigid northern Illinois, Sally. The beauty of this was the it was just lying in a driveway as I was headed towards the lake for my morning walk. It was “just” a dried flower, probably to be run over or blown away eventually, but it had such beauty, yet another reminder to me to always look for nature and beauty wherever I am.

  2. Wow, Janet. That is a beauty of a shot. Randy

  3. Hopeje says:

Nice challenge, I m always looking for bribe of nature in all manly transformed places, cities, cracks of side walks, walls and many more… les herbes folles que l’on retrouvent partout (crazy weeds that we find everwhere) and even more. beautiful picture, wishing you a happy new year 2015.

    • I’m pleased you liked the photo. I agree that nature’s beauty can be found everywhere, even in the most urban spots, and it’s an enjoyable challenge to find it. Happy 2015 to you as well and thanks for stopping by and for taking the time to comment.

  4. Cathy Ulrich says:

    Love the texture, Janet.

  5. Love the quote. The images appears to be a painting. Very well executed for ending of a year.
Hope 2015 is a good one for you.

  6. Angeline M says:

Really a beautiful “find” in the driveway! And that it appears to be dried makes no difference in its beauty.

  7. Love that color contrast. Amazing how sharp the details are for a camera phone, too.

  8. Oh I love that! I wish I could put it on my wall – the image is so “simple” so profound.

  9. Amy says:

Simply beautiful, Janet! Love this capture.

  10. Sue says:

    I like this one a lot! 🙂

  11. Emilio Pasquale says:

Very simple, very classic. The blue background is the perfect compliment to the subject color!

  12. I wish we all could capture such images

    • What a lovely thing to say! Thanks. I think more people could if they took the time to look around and start taking pictures. With digital, you can easily get rid of photos that don’t turn out the way you like and the practice only improves the ability to see a photo.

What do you think? I'd love to hear your thoughts on this, that or the other thing.
