Desert heat

After too many weeks of
	positively negative
	temperatures
eyes closed to the coddling sun
60’s patterns of orange dancing on
	the insides of my eyelids
natural vitamin D
	soaking through skin
	to strengthen bones
unusual wind creating
	sounds of breaking ocean waves
	where spiny cacti stand
I lie quiescent, replete
	mind floating untethered
        above the desert sand.

  1. I can relate. I’m wintering in Arizona. My first desert experience. The sun, pool and hot tub are such therapy for a snow bird like me 🙂

    • Jennifer, I hope you’re enjoying your time in the land of the sun. Arizona’s a beautiful place and I’m glad my family lives there so I’m able to visit sometimes. 🙂

  2. Mmmm. Recharging your solar energy batteries? Sounds wonderful, anyway.

Beautiful. I love the play of ‘contrasts’ in the language. Very appropriate for the extremes of the desert … just pulls the sand over the eyes and lets us wander with you….

… ‘mind floating untethered’ … that’s perfect relaxation!
