These aren’t really the sort of barrels you’d want to roll anywhere. It definitely wouldn’t be a barrel of fun. However, “Black and White” is the third Monday challenge over at Sally’s blog and this is my entry. I hope your week’s off to a great start and if you take photos with a non-traditional camera, feel free to join us.

Good morning Janet! I love your black and white choice.
Beautifully composed and executed.
Have a wonderful week.
Lucile
A happy Monday to you, Lucile. I’m glad you enjoy the photo. I’m getting to enjoy B&W more and more, although there are still times when nothing but color will do. How lovely to have the choice!

Thank you, Janet!
Indeed you have choice and it is great that you’re enjoying B&W.
The cacti work so well in black and white. Wonderfully sculptural too!
One of the things I constantly enjoy is how different a shot looks in B&W as opposed to color. The viewer looks at different things in one than the other and the ease with which we can try B&W is astonishing, especially when I remember how I used to have to wait to have film developed and then, if the shot didn’t turn out well, it was too late to take another one and you had to pay for the developing anyway.

B&W is a good challenge, isn’t it – it really makes us look differently at the subject. Ah yes! I recall those days of sending off film for development 🙂
B&W really does make me look at things differently and it’s a blast when it’s so simple to do.
Great photo
Thanks, Amanda. I tend to prefer color, except for some shots that are naturally B&W, but I’m starting to enjoy B&W more and more, particularly when I can do a shot in both B&W and color without effort.

This is a great subject for a large canvas print.
Truly, enjoyed the composition of the barrel cactus, which works so well in monochrome. The black and white allows for emphasis on the details that make this variety so captivating. Happy Photo Challenge.
I was quite pleased with the way this photo turned out, Sally, so I’m glad you like it, too. It really emphasizes the circular shapes and all the spines!

Stunning!
Thanks very much, Laurin. 🙂

That’s an amazing shot, Janet. What is it? I’ve never seen anything like it before.
It’s a cluster of barrel cacti, done in B&W for the challenge. I was in Arizona recently and took lots and lots of photos of cacti.
janet
Awesomeness! I learned something new today. Thanks!
My pleasure, Nadine. Enjoy your day.
Awesome, Janet!! 🙂
Good morning and thanks, Amy. Not so awesome if you touch one of them or fall into the bunch!
Oh wow, what amazing fractal patterns! I would have never seen this in a mere cactus; the black and white treatment suits is very well.
Hannah, the patterns aren’t nearly as obvious in color, although the cacti are still pretty. Nice to hear from you. I hope you’re doing well. Any new cookbooks in the works?
janet
Wish I could brag about some big project in the works, but I’ve been somewhat soured on the whole cookbook writing gig as of late… I’d sure love to start something new, but not to be taken advantage of by greedy publishers again. For now, I’m pretty happy just supplying the photos for other peoples’ recipes.
You do a superb job of that, Hannah. Relax and enjoy.
This is amazing. Love your work.
Raewyn, I really appreciate your continued support. Thank you.

Wonderful choice for your entry today, Janet. The black and white is just perfect. Great perspective!
Thanks, Angeline. I really appreciate that. Having a B&W challenge makes me look at things differently and that’s good.
janet
Love this one Janet – great response!
Appreciate that, Tina.

Hi Janet, that would be a difficult barrel to move.;) I loved the pattern as it is more prominent because of B&W. Great one! 🙂
