I’m having an affair.

I’m off to bed to read my current book because, with some exceptions, I subscribe to the following idea:

“A half-read book is a half-finished love affair.”
~David Mitchell

May you have a completed love affair with a good book this weekend!

  1. Damn it! I got fooled by the headline. Though you were going to give us a confession about your membership of the Ashley Madison website. Are you sure it’s a book you are referring to? Or should I try to read between the lines?!

    • Ha, ha! Since my husband reads my blog, that would be a dumb move, Micheal, if ’twere true. No reading between the lines because, as you can tell from just looking, it’s only blank space there. 🙂

  2. But on a more literary note, I am 10% or thereabouts into ‘Finnegans Wake’, written by another famous Irishman – but I have decided it’s time to end the affair and institute immediate divorce proceedings. I will not finish it and its chucking in the towel time. An impossible read. Dare you to give it a go!

    • I’ve had books that I’ve divorced as well. A friend recommended “Gone Girl” and I started it, but I couldn’t stand any of the people, found it really annoying, and just took it back to the library mostly unread. I’m fine with that. I have a feeling “Finnegan’s Wake” might go the same way. Time is too valuable to waste reading things you don’t enjoy…unless required for work, school, or some other reason.

I can’t go on reading only one book at a time, I gotta read a minimum of two books! The same with anime and TV shows! Awesome post!

  4. I’m telling….
    😉

    Ah! Curious headline:-)

  6. Okay, Janet, this is funny. Once I start reading a book I’m on the road to the end – quickly. Then I start a new one. Thank heavens for the library or I’d be broke. 🙂

    • Judy, I’ve said the same thing about the library more times than I can count. When I have a book I really enjoy, I want to read as slowly as possible to make it last, as I know there won’t be a new one by that author for at least another year. But I read quickly normally, so it’s almost impossible!!

  7. I am with you. I’m half finished with a page turner too.
Due to a hurricane that is veering close to us, a good book is a great distraction for the pounding rains. Have a GREAT weekend … enjoy !!!

  8. Ha! With a lead like that, now I must know: What book is it?! I’m always up for a thrilling literary affair myself. 😉

    • Hannah, it wasn’t any special book that prompted the post, but I was reading “In the Dark Places” by Peter Robinson, the latest in the series of mysteries featuring Inspector Banks. Prior to that, the latest WWI Bess Crawford book by Charles Todd, a mother-son author combo.

  9. Riding the subway to and from work I have lots of time to read and finish books on my Kindle. Now if only a sexy Chocolate Lover would appear as frequently as my reading material, well let’s just say this single woman would have something else to do besides read!! LOL! 🙂

I started reading ‘And the Mountains Echoed’ by Khaled Hosseini last week. I barely managed to concentrate on anything else. I’ve decided to take a break before I start reading – my next. The characters stay in my mind long after I’ve read the book. 🙂
