I’ve finally remember to join Norm’s “Thursday doors” challenge. Last year when we were in France, our flight home originated in Basel, Switzerland. We were fortunate to meet poet, artist, and fellow blogger, Claudia Schoenfeld, who showed us around her beautiful city and, although we didn’t have as much time as we would have liked, we had a wonderful time, viewing a plethora of beautiful doors, many on homes dating back hundreds of years. I’ll start with this one.
Thursday doors…Basel doors #1

Beautiful old door.
The city was full of them.

Europe knows how to do doors don’t they? 🙂
They do, Judy. I’ve seen some beautiful doors here, too, but probably at the cost of a month of rent for our house, so…

Welcome to Thursday Doors Janet and what a fine door you have shared. This is the second door this week to feature curved panels and these are beautiful. I like the way the door echos the (wood/metal/stone?) work above the doorway. Great job!
Thanks for the welcome and for enjoying “my” door. I’d love to have a door like this but alas, our rental house has a purely utilitarian door. I’m off for work shortly, but I’m excited thinking of all the beautiful doors I’ll get to see when I can catch up.

I hope you can continue to join us 🙂
I plan to, Dan. I have a number of doors to share yet. 🙂
That is a lovely door – very good choice indeed. So glad you could join us this week. You’re welcome whenever you want to join in 🙂
Thanks, Norm. Just got home from a very full day of work, so tomorrow I’ll be doing some door viewing. Looking forward to it and to participating in the upcoming weeks.

I’m a big fan of variations in door designs, especially found in Europe. That’s a gorgeous example of a wooden door created with whimsy–looks art nouveau.
Sally, there are so many lovely doors in Europe! One of these days, I’m going to walk around downtown Naperville where all the fancy houses are and take photos of the doors there.

Beautiful door!
Thanks very much, Mary Lou. 🙂

Lovely doors, interesting that the door-knobs are not along the edge of the doors.
I hadn’t really noticed that. 🙂

Amazing! They look very heavy.
Jan, I have no idea how heavy that door is, but it certainly looks as if you couldn’t kick it down easily as so often happens in American police shows. 🙂

Very nice choice to share with us!
So glad you liked it, Corina. Thanks for dropping by.

Is that the doorbell hanging down on the right hand side? The filigree or perhaps just a knotted cord? Incredible door well photographed http://judydykstrabrown.com/2015/09/10/open-and-shut-thursday-doors-challenge/
It looks like a knotted cord, Judy, but I have no idea why it would be there. 🙂 Glad you enjoyed the photo.

What a great find Janet! Great capture!
Thanks. I’d love to have doors like this on my house!

Beautiful door to start off with Janet! Even the bell pull is beautiful !
I would take these doors in an instant, although they’d look really odd on our rental house. 🙂
