Sometimes I get ready to take a photo, only to see a something I didn’t notice at first and change the focus of the shot (so to speak). That was the case here. I’m not sure what sort of spider this is but it was, thankfully, not scurrying away, just posing with the rain/dew drops. Perfect for a Monday macro.

Wonderful photo. Bugs, water, leaves. No better subjects and all three at once? A winner!
🙂 Judy, I’m a huge fan of water droplets and finding this little critter made them even better.

I love the surprise of water droplets. You never quite know what you have captured until you enlarge. Wouldn’t that make a good murder or detective story? The evidence they find in an enlarged water droplet? Picture surprises are our reward for nitpicking!!!!
Judy, sometimes I come home and look at my photos, expecting a fabulous droplet find and they’re just out of focus or something else. But sometimes the opposite occurs and it’s magical. Interesting plot line, too. 🙂
This is one I can help with Janet – it’s a Harvestman. And it’s probably been drinking dewdrops. They have poor eyesight but a well developed sense of smell and touch. Notice the second pair of legs is longer than the others – they are key sensors for finding prey (usually caterpilars, centipedes and other small invertibrates). Unlike spiders, they don’t spin silk.
Thanks, Martin! I did wonder what it was, although my title was a riff on the song “Who’s that girl with the skinny legs.” 🙂 Appreciate the info!!

Janet, you’ve managed to make an almost surreal image of one of Mother Nature’s busiest autumn creatures. Their work seems to be everywhere. I enjoyed the juxtaposition of the dark spider against the lighter leaf. Happy Photo Challenge.
Thanks, Sally. Although it’s going to be warmer this week, the autumn feel is in the air and I’m enjoying it.

Yikes to scurrying spiders! Great capture, Janet, especially with the pattern on its body and the dewdrops. I love to see droplets on leaves.
Nadine, I love droplets, too, and have lots and lots of photos of them in my files. 🙂 According to Martin (earlier comment), this isn’t a spider at all, but a Harvestman. Who knew? (Martin, obviously.)

Oh, I need to look that up. Never heard of that one before. You learn something new every day. Thanks, Janet!
I just did and they’re know as Daddy Longlegs, which is the name I’ve always known for them.

I’ve seen those, but I thought they were spiders, too. Nature is so fascinating. Thanks for the link.
great capture! 🙂
Thanks, Lola. 🙂

Janet, it looks like a painting! Amazing. Love the droplets too.
And it was such an enjoyable surprise, Lucile. 🙂

These are the best!
I must admit, I’m not the biggest fan of spiders, but you’ve portrayed this one in such an elegant, ethereal way, it makes me wonder if I’ve been missing their natural beauty all these years. Beautifully seen, Janet!
Evidently this isn’t a spider, Hannah, but a Harvestman, also known to many of us as Daddy Longlegs: http://www.backyardnature.net/longlegs.htm. They’re really quite useful and, as you say, even a bit elegant.
YIKES … I’m not big on getting close to piders or anything like them.
We have these here. They are very delicate looking. But, not fragile enough
for me to get close, Janet. I’ll just enjoy your captures. This was a good one. 😎
There used to be lots of Daddy Longlegs on my grandparents’ farm, so I got used to them. Glad you can enjoy my shots without problems. 🙂

Fabulous capture, Janet. They are cool spiders.
Glad you liked the shot, Jane. It was interesting to look through the lens and spot this guy. 🙂

Somewhat creepy but an excellent capture. Those water drops really make it a much more interesting photo.

It is amazing what you see in this world when you stop to take a closer look, the amazing beauty and complexity that is on display…Love your photo challenge, anxious to see how this is interpreted.
I’m always happy to see you, Charlie. Hope your weekend’s been good and your week will be better.
