Sally D’s Mobile Photography Challenge: Black and White…cementing a conrete moment or two

I have a difficult time getting away from photos of nature, but this week I did (sort of.)  My first black and white photo is of roots next to a sidewalk; the second, broken bits of concrete or cement.  Perhaps this is a metaphor for our existence–nature and man-made occupying the same area.  Make of them what you will as metaphor.  Just enjoy them.

  1. Certainly, one of the narratives is the juxtaposition of Mother Nature and human nature. The first image also has the yin/yang of the straight lines of the concrete and the shapes of the roots. Happy Photo Challenge.

  2. Maggie C says:

Rigid and imposing versus organic and adaptive. Hmmmm.

  3. The metaphor is quite apt.

  4. Laura L. says:

The roots pic is sinister! Disturbing. Great!!! 🙂

  5. Suzanne says:

I love the first one – it is most intriguing.

    • I’m glad you liked it, Suzanne. One of the reasons I like it is that it doesn’t appear to be what it really is, at least until you look at it very carefully.

Great entry, Janet. What I thought of after seeing these photos and reading your thoughts, is that nature always seems to adapt to the man made interferences.

  7. Lovely studies of black and white and texture. The first one looked like worms or snakes when I first saw it.
