Thursday doors…open door

“The door’s always open” certainly applies to this residence.  The door to the home of this gilded flicker woodpecker, though, might not seem friendly to most, guarded as it is by the long spines of the saguaro cactus.  This particular cactus doesn’t appear particularly happy with the occupancy or perhaps it’s just seen something shocking.  Whatever it is, the home owner seems quite unfazed.

Wonderful entry! And it would fit perfectly to the challenge of Rosenruthie: I see faces: http://rosenruthie.de/2015/11/01/i-see-faces-41/

That just might be my favorite cactus door ever, because it’s certainly the first I’ve seen! It looks like the bird put a mouth on the cactus’s face! Great photo!

  17. What an unexpected, delightful find! Like a satisfying plot twist in a novel, that definitely not what I thought I would see as the photo slowly loaded. Definitely put a smile on my face. 🙂

unbelievable! I have never seen a cactus hosting birds and this one is amazingly ‘decorated’ – looks like a face of owl. what a find!

    • Klara, these cacti, the saguaro, seems to host lots of birds. My parents live in Arizona, so I see quite a few cacti bird houses when I’m there. But this one was special. I love the “face” on the cacti as well as the bird peeking out.
