Lavender’s blue, dilly, dilly, lavender’s green
When I am king, dilly, dilly, You shall be queen
Who told you so, dilly, dilly, who told you so?
‘Twas my own heart, dilly, dilly, that told me so
If you’ve ever been in Provence when the lavender’s in season, or even after it’s been harvested, you’ll know how strong the aroma is. Tuck a packet of lavender in your clothes and they’ll carry a faint, delicious scent of lavender. When my s-i-l moved to another part of France, she planted these plants. The bees in NE France are thrilled.

Beautiful.
Thanks, Indira.

it’s so great to see it in Provence… and the smell is just wonderful …
I love the aroma, but if you didn’t like it, it would be a bad time to be in Provence! Even after harvesting, the scent lingered. And lavender honey is quite nice as well. 🙂

I love lavender and have much of it in my garden – but a dream would be to see it in Provence! Beautiful, summery shot!
I had some in my garden in Cleveland, but haven’t planted any here yet. Perhaps this summer.

Scent and the humming of bumble bees and the colours of butterflies…
All wonderful, Ann Christine.

I remember my dad singing that song! I’ve come to really appreciate Lavender, it’s tough, smells wonderful and is great for the bees.
A children’s group called Sharon, Lois, and Bram sang a version of this song that we listened to when our daughters were small. Those songs seem to stay with you forever, but it was a lovely tune.
Lavender honey…mmmmmmm.

Dad always made us sing in the car and he always started us off with that one. I have to admit I thought it was daft with all those “dilly dillies” 🙂
I LOVE Lavender and have at least a half dozen plants. However, there is only one that is gorgeous, big, robust, and beautiful. This spring, I’m going to try and foster some new plants from this one. 🙂
I’m going to have to plant some this summer, too. Our rental house is nicely landscaped (meaning not much room for anything else), but I’m sure I can find a spot for a couple of plants.

Gorgeous! I can smell it. 😀
And there’s nothing like some dried lavender in a sachet, tucked into a drawer with sweaters. 🙂

A very vibrant photo this week. I can almost smell the lavender. We have some planted on our front hillside and love the way it looks, and smells, in the early morning light.

The bees love it, too, which always makes me even happier.
janet
We have a neighbor down the street who has some bee hives and they do love our lavender.

Janet this is so beautiful. Thanks for playing.
Enjoyed it, Cee, even though I won’t have as much time as I’d like to visit other entries. I’m heading for Arizona Friday and have lots to do before then.

very beautiful blue, Janet! Love the smell of Lavender. 🙂
I do, too, Amy.

Stunning photo – very bright and cheerful
Thanks very much, Raewyn.

I like the scent of lavender. I would enjoy the precious purple flowers dancing in the wind. Your photo
takes the viewer there, Janet.
Nicely done …
Isadora 😎
Thanks, Izzy. I wish I were smelling lavender right now.
😄
[…] CFFC Blue or Purple Flowers…Lavender’s blue, Dilly Dilly | This, that and the other thing […]
One of my goals is to get to those blooming lavender fields. Such a purple. The little pail makes a striking accent
I’m glad you noticed the pail. I think that takes the shot beyond “just” a photo of lavender. As for those bloomin’ fields, I hope you make it one day.
janet
That pail adds depth, and interest – creates a story with the picture. Some say people are attracted to an image if there is a human presence.
There was, of course, just not in the photo. 🙂
What a romantic image, it captures the beauty of summer. I can almost smell the lavender wafting through the air.
And a wonderful scent it is!
janet
I hope it didn’t make you sleepy. I used to put a sachet under my pillow as lavender was supposed to assist relaxation and sleep. Lovely capture Janet
It didn’t make me sleepy at all, just happy. 🙂
I live in a lavender growing area, so I really concur with your encouragement to get out and see the growing fields before harvest.
Lucky you, Charlie.
