Thursday Doors…A door of a different color

Most of the houses in the area of Mesa, Arizona where my parents live are the Spanish style of much of the Southwest, a style I like very much.  But the doors are definitely not all one style!  On my way to the library each day in search of internet access, I passed a few doors that repeatedly caught my attention.  Eventually, I grabbed my camera on the way out the door in a quest to get a few shots of these doors that so captivated me.

However, I share with some of the other Thursday Doors participants that feeling of trespassing when taking photos of people’s homes. I stopped the car, got out, acted as if I were taking photos of the moon (and did take some), then shifted to the doors.  It sounds silly and felt rather clandestine, but I came away with some photos.  Here’s the first, a door of a different color.

I understand you perfectly, I do the same thing from time to time when I want to take a picture of someone or someones belongings. I also feel like a trespasser. Nice door you caught, thanks to the moon 😉

Nice colors, Janet. I like your treatment of feathering the colors on the edge of the photo. It is a bit of an airbrush effect.

I know that feeling of trespassing, but I think it’s ok, as long as you’re really just complimenting their taste and selection. I like how they tied the flowerpot and the door together. The roof appears to be similar, but, I have to be honest, this is an area of the spectrum I don’t perceive correctly. In any case, it’s a good choice for Thursday Doors.

  4. Ooh. I couldn’t live there – but wouldn’t mind looking at in a museum for 30 seconds or so.
My stomach reacted when I first saw it. Acid?

    • No acid trips here, Randy. The house is an adobe-style house, white with the reddish roof tiles, so the door and flowerpot aren’t as overwhelmingly purple as they are in the photo. You’d always be able to find your way home with this house and door, even after a bad trip. 🙂 Hope you took a few Tums and feel better now.

It wouldn’t work in many places but I like this color for a desert setting. Nice one Janet 🙂

    • Because I cropped it and then added a bit of violet vignette for the border, it makes everything appear more purple than it looked against the white of the house. But it does work well in the desert with its spare beauty.

I like the contrasting colours here in this photo, thanks to the cactus. 🙂

  7. I totally understand that – I have done the same thing. Though, yesterday as I was all dressed up in my beaded Art Deco dress I could see other photographers doing it to me – they could see I had a camera in hand so they knew that I knew too.
    Lovely photo too

    • I imagine most people don’t pay any attention, although if I were at home and someone was outside taking photos of my house, I might wonder what they were doing.

  8. Wow! I painted a bridesmaid’s nails that colour last week, to match her dress. It’s very unusual on a door, but lovely.

  9. I don’t see a lot of purple doors here in New England, When we lived in Kansas, that meant the homeowner was probably a KState Wildcat fan. 🙂

  10. I have taken SO many door pics over the last couple years! I can count on one hand the number of times people have asked me what i’m doing, and I always say “I just love your door!” and they seem happy. I don’t even take fake pictures of other things anymore 🙂 interesting color coordination of the pot and door by the way!

I never seen a purple door before!! Actually like it a lot!

I love it. It looks so exotic to me. No outdoor cacti in Minnesota.

  13. Love the colour Janet – like ripe grapes just before harvest! Know what you mean about taking pictures and feeling a little awkward, I think the more confident you appear the less anyone notices!

  14. Beautiful! It’s a very calming purple color, maybe it is because I connect it with lavender?

I have a couple of friends who are all about purple — they would LOVE these doors! lol They are different, all right, but they look beautiful. 🙂
