This week Krista has hit on one of my favorite words as her theme: Spare. “Spare” can have a variety of meanings, but in my mind it ties inexorably with the beauty that is simple and unadorned, often that of the desert. But in this case, I use it to mean something small, common, and easily missed.
Of course, if you don’t like my shot, I may go spare, a saying used by the British and Australians to mean “become very angry.” Just kidding, but it is an expression I enjoy.
It is a poetic picture, with silence and a little dropdropdrop…
Thanks, Jaelle. It was a foggy day, with all sounds muted by that fog.
You mean like “Pa-lease spare me!”
Lovely grace to the photo! 🙂
Thanks, Carol.

Lovely Janet! Have a great long weekend. I’m hoping it stops raining here!!!
We’re not getting rain at the moment, Nicole, but had downpours the other day and rain again this morning. Looks like more later as well. Hard to keep the grass mowed and the weeds….
I love the effect of the fog on this image.
I thought you might. 🙂 You see a bit of fog up your way as well and it does so much for some of your shots.

love the water droplets on the branch and the misty background, a spare but wonderful image
Thanks very much, Jim. It was a great day to be out with phone and camera.

Lovely contribution, Janet. Simple but powerful!
I appreciate that, Hammad. Have a wonderful weekend.
Well I certainly don’t want you to go ‘spare’, so I’ll just say that I think your image is perfectly lovely. 🙂
🙂 I think I have myself under control, but thanks for not testing me.

😆
Love this take on, Janet !! Well done!
I had a few choices, but decided this might be a bit different from some of the other choices in the challenge.

Wandering among words is fun.
Never heard that particular saying.
Spare as simple and undadorned reminds me of some ancient relative talking when I was a kid about life waaaay back then. Always like that word in that use.
(Nice picture!)
I really like your interpretation of spare, Janet. Just the image!
Thanks, Tish. I started with another shot in mind but changed my mind.
[…] This, that and the other thing Weekly Photo Challenge: Spare…simplicity […]
Love your rain drops. 🙂
I’m glad, Judy. Hope you have a great weekend.

Kewl shoT! 🙂
Thank ewe. 🙂

I will certainly not go spare at you Janet, this is a lovely interpretation.
Thanks for sparing me, Pauline. 🙂 Glad you enjoyed it and hope you’re enjoying the weekend.
Haha, good one Janet. Yes having a good laid back weekend, gardening and painting.
This is an evocative photograph full of moodiness and much more than a “spare” one, Janet.
Thanks! I’m smiling to read that.
Lovely shot; and a beautiful portrayal of the theme.
It was a magical walk where everything was simple due to the fog.

Magical!
Very atmospheric. I could almost taste the fog.
I could certainly feel it, Sandra. 🙂
janet
Lovely and interesting picture as always.
What a nice thing to say! Thanks so much.
janet
Perfect capture! 🙂
Thanks, Yousuf.

You’re welcome, Janet.
what a lovely mood!
your words made me think of other expressions such as spare change, spare tire, sparing no effort, etc etc. i have never heard the expression the way you’ve used it. but i do know ‘spare me!’, a lighthearted way of saying no to a lengthy story or piece of gossipy news.
