There’s such a different feel between the B&W version and the sepia version that I thought I’d post both and let you decide which you like better.  I think the B&W feels more like a winter shot, the sepia like an old postcard or stereoscopic photo.  What do you think?

I’m not usually the biggest fan of sepia, but in this case I think I prefer it

  2. GeorgieMoon says:

They are both lovely. I like the black and white one!

  3. The sepia gives a warmer, timeless feel, while the black and white version is very cool and wintery

  4. Su Leslie says:

This is a lovely shot Janet. I like the sepia edit, but prefer the black and white. It captures winter so well.

  5. Dan Antion says:

I like the B&W version. And, I like look at that when it’s going to be 90 degrees 🙂

  6. Nice comparison…each can be substantiated. But the black and white focuses more on the contrast and detail and tone.

  7. Sepia is softer but I do prefer the winter look!

  8. Stunning. Sepia is really tough to apply in a compelling way, but I think it really suits this image. Because it is so graphic and timeless, something about it just works.

  9. I vote for the b&w. Would be interesting to tally tastes by gender.

Gorgeous reflections! I prefer the black and white, but then I’ve never been a fan of sepia.

  11. Pan says:

Sepia is still keeping that winter feel.. I flip between B&W and sepia, just depends on the picture.. in this case sepia wins my vote 😊

  12. Emilio Pasquale says:

I use sepia rarely and am not a great fan. The black and white is cleaner and crisper and does convey a wintery feeling. The sepia just misses for me at feeling like an old print and therefore takes me out of the image to the processing, if you know what I mean!

In the black and white you can see the reflection of the branches in the water a little more clearly. Both are nice shots though!

  14. Lovely images, Janet. 🙂

  15. Lena says:

Strange, I think just the opposite, that the sepia looks more like winter. The black and white feels more like a walk in the park of an old park at a castle from around 17 th century 🙂

Beautiful trees for this black and white challenge. Thanks for playing.

What do you think? I'd love to hear your thoughts on this, that or the other thing.
