Sally D’s Mobile Photography Challenge: Nature…A rend in the sky

I’m intrigued by the difference in feel made by a slender dark frame as opposed to a lighter one.  In western South Dakota, this bit of rainbow appeared against a dark sky and bright fields.  It was as if the heavens had been rent, allowing these slashes of color to escape, nature at her simple, stunning best.

I’ve never seem a rainbow fragment before – great photo, Janet.

    • Thanks, Dan. I took it from my van while driving, extremely carefully, one hand on the wheel and eyes ahead except for a quick look to see where I was pointing the phone. Not many people on the interstate, I hasten to add, and quite a few shots I had to delete. 🙂 But there were no good places to stop and I couldn’t let it get away.

  3. Janet, stirring capture…I seem to be responding more to the black frame, which makes the colors and rainbow pop more. Happy Photo Challenge.

What a beautiful sight, Janet. This is the first time that I have seen a fragment of a rainbow. It is like a glimpse under the cover of a coloring book.

Slender dark for me. Interesting rainbow. I don’t thin I’ve ever seen one without at least part of an arc.
