Time to take a quick break from making granola to check for the Weekly Photo Challenge prompt…and it isn’t there. Okay then. Back to tea and granola and periodic checking.
Okay, it’s up, but not in the regular spot and no pingbacks right now. But I’ll forge ahead. “Ambience” always makes me laugh because one day I used the word while teaching a high school Bible study. When I asked if everyone knew what it meant, one boy blurted out, “The store for lovers.” In that area, there was an “adult” store selling sexy lingerie and so on, named Ambiance with the tagline, “The Store For Lovers”. Now I smile inside if not out every time I hear it.
Ambience, or ambiance, is the special atmosphere or mood of a particular environment, the mood, character, quality, tone, atmosphere, etc. I think this shot captures the ambience of being out on a beautifully foggy day, wrapped in mist and mystery.
I love foggy days – this is beautiful.
Dan, it was in Cape May, New Jersey, near the shore. I went out on my own and it was magical!!

Moody ambience. Love it!!
Thanks so much, Richard. Thanks for visiting and commenting. Have a great weekend.

eerie… I love how the fog always gives a gloomy peace to things…
It does in a way, Juls, but I also felt wrapped in quiet beauty. 🙂
janet
For sure! I’m with you!
Beautifully, eerily, ambiently moody, Janet!
Thanks, Sue. It was a special walk and I got a lot of great shots, which is always good, too. 🙂
I love that tree! It looks great in the fog.
Thankfully, no bodies hanging from it, which is usual TV fare. 🙂 It was such a wonderful day to be out there, so different from a warm, sunny day.

Beautiful Janet. 😀
Thanks very much, Cee. Hope you have a wonderful weekend.

Ohhh Janet I am too trained to photo flash stories and can quickly see a story forming with this backdrop. I like it so much and would love to be there in the moment. Thanks for sharing this.
My pleasure, Joe. I know what you mean about the flash fiction. 🙂
fantastic image, Janet. very moody and a lot of a very special ambience. I love it. I also considered a foggy image first.
It also brings back the joy of the walk and of the entire trip, which is good, too. Fog makes things very special, although not necessarily in a good way, especially if you’re driving.
yep, that’s definitely true!
Beautiful!
Thanks! A special morning for sure.
janet
Great capture! I have been trying to shoot misty mornings for month, but I have just never made it. Thanks for sharing.
My pleasure. I’m always happy when i get to the park in the morning and there’s a bit of fog (or a lot.) But in winter, I prefer the sun. 🙂
janet
hi janet, wonderful and interesting Picture.
Thanks very much, Robert. I appreciate you stopping by and also taking time to comment.
Superb. Loved your take. Best wishes for 2017.
Thanks, Indira. I hope your 2017 is off to a wonderful start and gets even better.
janet
Thanks dear but this time I was sick from Dec last week to up-to now. Could not enjoy a thing.
😦 Hope you’re feeling much better!
🙂
Very atmospheric, Janet. Have a nice weekend.
Thanks, Sandra. You as well.
janet
Ambience that Mother Nature and I would both give you an A+ on. Beautiful shot, Janet. Perfect for the challenge. 🙂
Thanks very much, Judy. I’ll keep that report card and frame it. 🙂
Great shot J. But can you send me the address of that store please?! MB
🙂 They have a website, MB, so you can find it for yourself. Type in “Ambiance” and it might be the very first entry.
So you’ve been buying their stuff online it seems J! Between that and the bible studies you are a busy lady!
Alas, MB, nothing so salacious! When I looked up “ambiance” to see what the definition was in the dictionary, the website as the first thing up. There’s a similar store close to a grocery store where I often shop, so if I wanted to indulge, I could do so postage-free. 🙂
Disappointed. Thought we could muster a blog post from your ambient adventures! Take care J.
[…] This, that and the other thing Weekly Photo Challenge: Ambience…Mist and mystery […]
There is a lot of moodiness in this photo. Nicely done, Janet!
Thanks very much, Paula.
Beautiful photo–listen to the quiet!
Exactly! I did listen and it was delightful. When I got back, I was covered with mist. 🙂
janet
Ambience in spades!
🙂 Thanks, Karen.
janet
A beauty
Thanks, Chris. I liked yours, too.

I love a good foggy day and this one is no exception, Janet. The sun in the branches and the receding line of trees really make this photo work.
Ω
One of the things I like most about a really foggy day like this one is the quiet, although in our area, there’s always background traffic noise. But here it was silent.
Foggy days at the bridge were nice for that same reason, sound dampening.
Ω
A beautiful photo for the challenge Janet!
Thanks, Nicole.
janet
Such a moody picture, Janet. Perfect for quiet, contemplative walks!
Or waiting for something evil to happen. Fortunately for me, it was as you said. 🙂
Your alternative, always, if it were a horror movie! 😂
Cute story! Ours here is called Priscilla’s. Well, it may be something else now…The Mister says it’s Cirilla’s and I recall he’s right. Still “The Store for Lovers.”
The fog photo is beautiful. I love it. Great ambience. It was plenty gray and foggy here this week, too. One day, I think Wednesday, I went out dressed head-to-toe in gray, looked at the sky, and said, “You too, huh?”
🙂
I like black, so I don’t think that about the sky too often…except at night. 🙂 I wish I could wear yellow and then go out and talk to the sun, but yellow doesn’t look good on me.
Sleep well.
janet
Love this image Janet, it is so moody!
Thanks, Lena. It looks so different in the sunshine. 🙂

Misterious and beautiful
Thanks so much! That’s the sort of morning it was. 🙂
janet
breathtaking, spell binding, intriguing, captivating, enduring.
I think that covers it for me. Great piece of work.
Randy
Randy, it was a good thing I was sitting down when I read this. Truly, thanks very much. I’m thinking a set of B&W photos might work well for cards.
janet
Perfect – I love the athmosphere here.
Thanks, Ann-Christine. It was a day filled with atmosphere (moist atmosphere.) 🙂
janet
Wow, that’s such a beautiful picture!
Thanks very much. It did turn out well, which pleased me no end as well. 🙂
