“It is in your power to withdraw yourself whenever you desire. Perfect tranquility within consists in the good ordering of the mind, the realm of your own.”
Marcus Aurelius, Meditations
“I will be calm. I will be mistress of myself.”
― Jane Austen, Sense and Sensibility
I will have to settle for calm moments during a busy day, but I guess that’s within our power as well.
Even small moments of calm can make a big difference, Dan, and mental state is another thing entirely.

‘good ordering of the mind’ in my case, a state much to be hoped for. Happy weekend, Janet 🙂
I understand, Tish. For all of us. Have a wonderful weekend yourself.
Such a beautiful shot to pair with these wise words. Hope you are enjoying some serenity this weekend.
How could one not be serene in the face of a scene like this? Lovely shot!
Thanks, Karen. That was my purpose, to ease the reader into a serene state of mind. 🙂

Beautiful shot Janet!
Glad you like it, Nicole.
Yes
🙂
Two of my favorite writer’s and philosopher’s you have here today! Both fit this image brilliantly.
Golden Hour when the end of day is oh. so. near. The calm and quiet, the beautiful golden, warm light on my face is so soothing, and calming. In a few deep breaths all stress, and care about Earthly things on a frail ribbon in my hand I let drift away to my left out of sight. It is then I can I find my center/balance…peace, God. All is well!
When our younger daughter and I were in England some years ago, we watched a program on the “telly” called “The Golden Hour.” It, however, was about the hour right after an accident happens, when you have the best chance of saving the person. 🙂 I prefer you definition.
