The aroma of freshly-made granola perfumes the air in our house this morning, while outside, the flowers I finally planted have been drinking deeply of the rain. I’m ready for a bit of sunshine, but there isn’t much I can do. Tea and a good book are in my plans for the afternoon, at least the part where I’m not working at something.
Today’s Photo Challenge theme is “Evanescent.” Butterflies are, by nature, evanescent, flitting from flower to flower. To see one at rest is truly an evanescent moment.
Beautiful colours!
They certainly are beautiful and as there are so few of them compared to years ago, I love to see them, especially on our butterfly bush right outside the window. I planted a few butterfly-friendly plants yesterday, so we’ll see if they attract more.

That’s sadly true – I haven’t seen a monarch in ages…
Exquisite, especially as framed by the lavender flowers.
Thanks, Tom. It’s the sort of shot I always hope to get, but too often the butterfly flutters. 🙂
janet
Incredible detail. Perfect for Challenge.
Thanks, Carol. Glad you like it.

Beautiful …. image, Janet!!!!! The colors … the sharpness! Lovely entry.
I’m happy you like it. Thanks very much.
How lovely.
Aren’t they beautiful? I can’t wait until our butterfly bush is up and blooming again and I can see these again.

Great shot, Janet!
Merci, Juls. 🙂
Beautiful colors, Janet.

Thanks, Allan. Happy Wednesday.
Beautiful photo, Janet. I had to look up the word, so I learned something today, too 🙂
Never a dull moment, eh, Dan?
Stunning. Well captured 🙂
Thanks very much, Neha!

Yea, you bet!
🙂 Dear Janet,
this is so beautiful!
Have a very HAPPY evening 🙂
Vielen dank, Claudia. Du auch.
🙂 Sehr gern, liebe Janet!
Thanks for saying it in German xo
I’d say more, but I don’t remember all that much anymore. 🙂
Ah, a lovely tot of evanescence, Janet!
Thanks very much, Sue. 🙂
Fabulous shot! 🙂 🙂
Much appreciated, Jo. 🙂

It’s like a mobile stained glass window – beautiful. Thanks for the reminder too! 🙂
Thanks and you’re welcome. 🙂 You’ll be on your own for the next several weeks, as I’ll be in France and on a cyber break.
janet
The epitome of evanescence – beautiful as well!
Many thank, Ann-Christine. Enjoy the rest of the week.
janet
You too!
Gorgeous photo. It could almost be a painting it is so beautiful. 🙂
Thanks, Judy. Butterflies are so beautiful and I’m really happy I was able to “capture” this one for posterity. 🙂

What a stunning shot Janet!
I’m pleased you think so, Nicole. How’s your weather? We’re still in chilly and rainy here. I finally got my couple of beds free of the mass of weeds and got my flowers in, so at least I don’t have to water them. 🙂
So pretty. Ours usually arrive in August and stay on through September. Is it the same up your way?
I think so. It takes our butterfly bush quite some time to grow back each year and by the time it’s back, so are butterflies.
janet
Beautiful image! Yes, butterflies are fleeting but so lovely.
That they are and so many beautiful varieties.
janet
Lovely image Janet. And a much-needed butterfly “fix” now that ours have all hatched and gone.
🙂 We haven’t seen any yet this year, but the photo whets my appetite for them. I planted several butterfly-friendly plants this year, so maybe we’ll have more.
janet
Hopefully. They need all the help they can get.
Another fabulous contribution to the weekly challenge, Janet!
🙂 Thanks very much.
I have never been able to photograph a butterfly simply because they never stay still long enough for me to get my act together. I am always envious then of those able to capture such beauty. Your photo is amazing and I love the detail. Well done!
They certainly can be difficult to capture. I’m glad you enjoyed the shot, Gale. Happy Thursday.

One of the more important of nature’s summer workers, thanks for honoring it.
Completely my pleasure, Sally. I’m looking forward to when they show up this year.
