Weekly Photo Challenge: Waiting…for the day

September has arrived here in northern Illinois and with it, some lovely weather: mid-seventies (Fahrenheit) during most days and cool-chilly nighttime sleeping temperatures.  Perfect!  Summer appears to be holding strong, although a few colorful leaves are making an appearance on the trees.  Of course, my friends in the southern hemisphere are getting set (waiting) to enjoy summer!

Ironically, the theme for the first photo challenge of September is “Waiting.”  I guess I could have taken a selfie of me with my laptop on my lap, waiting for the challenge to come out, but that’s too easy and besides, I don’t do many selfies.

This shot was taken the morning of the eclipse as I left the cabin and the Bighorn Mountains on my way home.  I was waiting for the day and for the trip and it was a blessed way to leave a place I love.  The colors are as I saw them and are not retouched at all.

It is this moment that sends joy to your mind and warmth to your heart. This sky watching. This thrill of simply being there and viewing colours so unbelievable they can’t possibly real. How fortunate we are to have these memories. Cheers Virginia

  13. “Red sky in the morning; sailors take warning.” That’s the New Englander in me but it is a lovely sky just the same.

  14. Stunning. That is a view worth waiting any length of time to see, no matter how fleeting that moment is. Thank you for capturing it and letting us get that instant gratification. 😉

  15. What a glorious send off!

When you mentioned that you had similar thoughts as Andy, I had to come see this fabulous day’s beginning. Waiting to leave on eclipse day is a memorable day and event, Janet.

    Beautiful photo!

  19. Lovely, I’m usually not a fan of “borders” on photos but it works really well here.

  20. I’m surprised you can go 11 months between visits – beautiful. 🙂

    • During the winter, you can’t get up there unless you use a snowmobile. The water is turned off in the fall and not on again until spring. But I’d be there all summer if I could. 🙂
