Not only are the days flying by, they seem to be filling up with one thing or another. In the morning, the posts in my “blogs I follow” box seems to have multiplied like the proverbial rabbits (as well as people I follow posting multiple posts–HEEEEELP!) and I feel that I may never catch up. I’ve started working two shifts a week at a local patisserie/restaurant/chocolate shop as well, have a bag of apples ready to make sauce, and…well, you’re probably all in the same blogging boat, so I’ll stop my whining. 🙂 But can’t you hear real life calling? Loudly?
That makes a “Wordless Wednesday” post sounds really, really inviting. But no matter what, except for last week, Wednesday is Photo Challenge Day and once again I shall answer its siren call. The theme for this week is “Layered”, a perfect segue into some of my upcoming posts about returning from Wyoming and driving through the Badlands the day of the eclipse. Here’s a teaser. Because of the eclipse, the sky and wonderful colors of the layers are somewhat dulled, but I find them awesome (in the true, old sense) nonetheless.
What a cool shot!
Thanks, Nancy. The Badlands are truly beautiful! Someone told me the ones in North Dakota are even better, but I’ve never seen them. Add them to the enormous list of places to see or re-see. 😉

🙂
Those are some dramatic layers. I’ve been there
Everyone should go if they get a chance, don’t you think? It’s quite unusual.
janet
Fascinating photo, Janet. Well done.
Thanks very much, Sandra. 🙂
janet
Those inboxes do have a way of filling up overnight.
The problem is that I really want to look at/read and comment on them all. But sometimes I feel guilty about how much time I spend online when there are things I need to do.
janet
It’s impossible to keep up. Especially with folks who post more than once a day. I do my best, but if I get tied up for a day, I have to delete a lot don’t see them.
I have to skip some, too. When I work, most of the day is taken up and believe it or not, there are lots of things to do with taking care of a house, yard, and meals, let alone blogging, etc. :-0
janet
I know 🙂
Nice pic.
And yes, life is layered in all sorts of ways, including piles of blog posts. which, unlike the badlands though, we get to cherry pick through – rather than being acted upon as nature does over time with the badlands, et. al. Yay, for the small favors in life bestows us, although ultimately, nature does have its sway over us.
Randy
I could have taken a photo of layers of paper waiting to be dealt with, too, Randy. If I didn’t want to get to everyone’s posts, it wouldn’t be so bad or if I just “liked” and went away, but that doesn’t build relationships.
janet
you’re right. It doesn’t.
That’s one of my favorite parts about blogging, in case you didn’t already know. 🙂
Great layers, Janet!
Thanks very much, Sue.
Certainly a spectacular landscape Janet. I get a real buzz knowing about the geology of places and this place certainly wears its history very clearly. 🙂
That it does, Su. You’ll enjoy the upcoming photos and posts as we head back to Illinois from Wyoming. 🙂 Have your passport ready!
Always!!! I have two, although the British has been somewhat devalued by Brexit.
Wonderful layers, in more sense than one.
Thanks. I’m glad you think so.

Living so many years in Saskatchewan we were also fortunate to enjoy the beauty of the badlands. And by the by … working a few days a week in a patisserie. Spill the chocolate beans, Janet. What magic are you whipping up? Cheers Virginia
I’m not making any of the goodies, just helping to sell them. 🙂 We sell both baked goods and chocolate truffles that come from high-end chocolatiers. We also have a restaurant side that does chocolate drinks as well as delicious meals. Here’s a link to the shop: https://www.lechocolatdubouchard.com/.
Reminds me of Oregon’s Painted Hills. Only lots, lots bigger.
The Painted Hills must be lovely. I’ve also seen the Painted Desert, which is stunning as well.

You have given voice to the panic I sometimes feel about keeping up … what is the solution??? It almost feels like a treat I earn myself to have time to read the wonderful blogs this community shares.
Life goes on, waits for no one. We just have to do the best to have fun while we are at it!
That’s true. I’ve “graduated” to not blogging while on vacation, so that I can relax and enjoy. The other advantage is that it gives me plenty of blog posts later. 🙂 I’ve considered not blogging every day, but I do enjoy it, so… We just have to prioritize and make our own decisions, hard as they can be.

Badlands are really beautiful. I have been there during Sturgis motorcycle rally. It is hot though, but everyone should see them at least once.
It wasn’t bad when I went, but if you didn’t go during the summer, it probably wouldn’t be bad. I try to avoid going through South Dakota during the rally because of all the motorcycle traffic and difficulty finding a place to stay. 🙂 But the Badlands are certainly beautiful.
janet
Yes it’s pretty crowded and the weather is all over the place. As far as getting a place to stay…its a tough one, indeed it is.
Awesome indeed, Janet!
Glad you think so. 🙂 Thanks for stopping by.
Driving through these awesome sceneries on the day of the eclipse! Looks like you had a great day, Janet! ☺
It was a great day, Anita, despite the fact that I was on the way home from a wonderful vacation. 😉
A fitting end to your vacation, Janet. 🙂
It was, Anita. It was a nice transition stage from the mountains back to the city. The two-day drive allows me to change places much more easily than just getting on a plane. Besides, from where I am in Wyoming, the plane situation takes a lot of work to get to Chicago. Much more fun to drive!!
Oh, definitely. Even the view is more ‘personal’ on a drive than from a plane!
We have similar badlands here in Alberta at Drumheller.
Nice!

Beautiful photo. The layers were sediments laid down in the cretaceous sea. Isn’t it amazing that the layers of colour in your photo capture a record of the changes in sea water for 70 million years?
I believe in Creation and the flood causing these layers in a much shorter amount of time, but it’s amazing either way!

janet
Wow! Thats a really beautiful photograph!
Thanks! I’m glad you like it.
janet
Fabulous take on “layered.”. I’m right there with you in life overload. I enjoy creating Wordless Wednesday posts, and seeing those from
my fellow bloggers. Some days I just need a little breathing space and some pretty photos to slow down my hectic place.
Donna
Happy Thursday, Donna. I hope you have a relaxing day. 🙂
janet
Love that Wyoming landscape! Beautifully shot.
Thanks, Irene. This is actually in South Dakota, right next to Wyoming. But not matter, it’s beautiful, isn’t it?
janet
Oh, I thought I had read Wyoming! Silly me. 😉
I was in Wyoming, but this is on the trip back to Chicago. We’ll be in the Badlands probably both Saturday and Sunday (in those posts anyway, as I’m at home), so you’ll have time to get oriented. 🙂
Ha! My sense of direction is nonexistent so I am glad you have some hope in me. 😉 Thanks.
Irene, since I’m doing the driving, all you have to do is buckle your seat belt and relax. 🙂
When confronted with such a vast and magnificent landscape, it truly is difficult to capture that incredible sense of grandeur. Having said that, your photo does. It is awesome … in the true sense of the word.
Thanks for using that so-abused and misused word, Joanne. It really is awesome and I’m so happy you enjoyed the photo. More of them coming over the next two days.
janet
I know! I’m always so reluctant to use that word, but sometimes IT JUST FITS!

Nicely captured vista.
Thanks, Sally. There are amazing vistas there and all over the west where it seems most places you can see for miles.

This is a great shot for the challenge. I also hear you on the whole keeping up with your blogging friends posts, that can be a challenge as well.
I enjoy keeping up with them, but I often feel the time would be more profitably spent on some of the things that need doing around the house/yard. 🙂 Glad you enjoyed the shot and thanks for taking time to comment as well.
janet
Oh my gosh does the inbox ever fill up, and quickly too! I don’t spend much time on the computer during the week-ends preferring to spend my time outdoors instead on Monday’s my inbox is bursting. So, I know how you feel!
It can take days for me to catch up, like now I’m just getting to this post of yours. The overcast sky really helped to make all those layers of strata, and sedimentary rock pop!
Your place of part time employment sounds delicious! It would be dangerous for me…I’d be tempted and probably give in to too many tasty things. 🙂
Oddly, I’m not really tempted by most of the things at the shop, even though they’re very good. Maybe just the proximity. But that’s good or it could be a problem. 🙂
Thanks for making it over my post, especially because I know how busy it can get. It’s always appreciated.
Enjoy the weekend!
janet
Nature does a nice job of painting…
Oh, so very true.
