Thursday doors…These French doors are grate.

Bon jour!  Today it’s time for a quick trip to that most lovely of towns, Plombières-les-Bains.  We don’t have time for a trip to the baths, but since this is Thursday Doors, it doesn’t matter.  We’re in search of some grate doors and have found three.  Of course there are many more, but let’s not be greedy.  Afterwards, we can stop for a coffee and use the toilet before heading home.  Oui, oui!

I don’t do straight coffee, but this real cream makes my cappuccino quite delightful.  Calories?  After all the walking we did today, who’s counting?

  1. Love your doors, but I have to admit that all that gunk just ruins a great cup of coffee. But that’s okay. To each his own. I’m glad you enjoyed it.

    • I love the smell of coffee, but not the unadulterated flavor, Sandra. The whipped cream mellowed the coffee enough for me to enjoy it and it wasn’t overly sweet, as this isn’t the whipped cream of America.

Lovely decorative doors and I’ll join you for the coffee, but I like an iced coffee with all the cream, ice cream and trimmings

I love French doors. You’ve made me want to hop over the Channel toute suite,

  4. Dan Antion says:

Wow – these are wonderful doors, Janet. I’m a sucker for iron work combined with a beautiful wooden door. I’m also a sucker for whipped cream, so…

Okay, I love the blue iron on the middle door but I’m not so sure about the statue with the spout coming out of her mouth. Maybe my mind is in the gutter but that looks too weird for me.

    • You see lots of similar fountains throughout France, Janet, many where people used to do their laundry. Some are lions with the water pipe coming out of their mouths, some are like this.

  6. I like the color of the blue grate in the second photo today and the intricate pattern of the next one. I wonder how they clean the outer glass behind the grates?

The light blue one today is my favorite! And naughty naughty, tempting us with soo much whipped cream!! I would know what would happen if I were with you! Encore, s’il vous plait:)

    • 🙂 I don’t have much of a sweet tooth, Jesh, but by the time it mingled with the coffee (and it wasn’t the overly sweet whipped cream of the U.S.), it tasted quite nice.

Haha, that’s the difference – in the beginning I could not stand the sweet cake here, so I substituted it with corn bread:) and still eat 72% chocolate bar, not because of health reasons, but the taste!

      • Oh, I’m a dark chocolate fan as well, Jesh. I work in a pastry shop and most of the pastry and truffles are too sweet for me to indulge in often and even when I do have something, I can easily eat just half. Give me savory most of the time!

Maybe you can give your shop an idea for people with European (or “healthy” -whatever title works) taste buds:)

Lovely! I think that cappuccino may have stolen the show! 😛

Those iron grilles are amazing, especially the blue one.

  10. Great doors and catchy title!

  11. Tina Schell says:

No better door in the world than France and you’ve found several! Also love their windows 😊

  12. Great doors! I’ll take the one with blue iron and the cappuccino, please! 😉

  13. The grates on the doors had my undivided attention and then you threw in that delicious looking coffee. Yes – walk, treat, walk some more. 🙂

  14. marianallen says:

Great doors! And I love that fountain — it makes me think of thirsty dogs and cats, who can take a refreshing sip whenever they need one.

    • I love the fountain, too. Here in Naperville business owners downtown often put out dog bowls with water in them during the summer. I think that’s ice.

Bonjour a vous aussi. These are indeed grate doors – love the theme and the pun 😉

  16. Joanne Sisco says:

So pretty! … and yes, French coffee with whipped cream is a delightful afternoon decadence.

  17. The ironwork is wonderful on all those doors but that bright blue really stands out, it would be hard to miss that one. 🙂

  18. No calories you say? Okay I’m in for decadent café, and the wonderful doors en France! Any day, any time I’m in! I love the first set of doors. The wood grain got me. I loved it!

  19. WalkFrederick says:

You found some nice doors and they all seem related somehow. The coffee looks worth the calories!
