I recently spent a long Memorial Day weekend in southern California (as well as Baja California), starting in Pasadena with our two daughters. I love what this parking garage owner has done with the doors to the elevators!
One mission was to help our daughter choose her wedding dress, something I’m happy to say we did. The shop she used was in the garment district of LA and afterwards we walked around for quite some time. Here’s a door from that walk.
This door and its marvelous surroundings were across from the shop in the arcade where we indulged in some delicious gelato.
Some great doors here! And a lovely story to go with them. How fabulous to help choose your daughter’s wedding dress!
Fortunately, she’d whittled it down to 4 or 5 of her favorites, but we pretty much all agreed on the one she chose, which was nice.

Janet – what a gift to be able to help her decided – whew sounds fun and successful
Ooh; what fun.
It was a lot of fun, Su, and wonderful time with daughters I don’t see nearly as often as I’d like.

Dress mission accomplished, sweet treat, and a doorscursion – successful day for sure. Love the elevator. 🙂
It was an excellent day and I didn’t even mention that we started at Amara, a Venezuelean coffee shop where we had the best mocha of my entire life. 🙂 Sweet indeed. Yes, I love the elevator door and if I remember correctly from my visit a few years ago, the other elevator doors have other scenes.
janet
what interesting doors –
Thanks. 🙂

Your door photos are interesting. I’ve never been to LA– well at least in it. I’ve been through LAX many times, but haven’t seen the city…
The garment district is seems like the heart of the city, the old, somewhat grittier part, although it’s right by the newer parts as well. I haven’t been to LA much, either, which is fine. I prefer Pasadena, but it was fun to roam around for part of a day.

I actually walked the garment district in LA back in 1987. I was young (college age) and a date brought me all around LA on a date – and I recall seeing someone getting measured for a suit in a glass window roomed area – I thought, “Wow – talk about custom fit”
anyhow, the city bank doors are so sturdy and artsy
There were lots of suits for sale, some of them rather gaudy. 🙂 I imagine you can still get fitted some places.

oh what a cool experience
Interesting collection, I like that first shot.
I love what they did with ordinary boring elevator doors, too.

Really nice ones! Could there BE three more different doors? And all wonderful!
Thanks, Marian. Glad you enjoyed the diversity. 🙂

I do like they way they dressed up an otherwise plain elevator door. Despite the rust on the top section that wrought iron one is gorgeous. Nice shots 🙂
Thanks, Norm. I appreciate you making the trip all the way from Montreal to look at my photos. 🙂 I’m looking forward to tonight’s Stanley Cup game, hoping that the Golden Knights will at least win one more. Besides, that way if the Caps win the Cup, which appears likely, they could skate it at home, which is the best of all possible worlds. 🙂

Some great finds! The garment district, hey – who would’ve thought.
Glad you enjoyed them, JT. There are all sorts of interetsing things in the garment district. 🙂

You’re a good momma! When is she going to get married? Glad to have you back on Thurs. doors:) Gelato – now I have to drive two hours for that:):)
October is the wedding month. The gelato was very good. 😊. I’m enjoying being back. It’s a blessing to love to go and have a person and a place I love to come here me to!!
janet
October is a safe month, it probably won’t be as hot then! Now, when I go to a city, all the traffic noise are too much stimulation:)
I know what you mean, Jesh. The best thing here was that I wasn’t driving, so I could relax and look around. 🙂
THe Garment District! I’m so jealous!! I have to settle with stopping at an estate sale this evening to look at bolts of fabric. sigh! Maybe you’ll share some pics of the area some time?????(fingers crossed)
I do have more photos, although not of any fabric stores. 😉

I belong to a sewing group who love to watch the designer trends. The coasts have all the good stuff 💕
The elevators doors are outstanding. Almost like a window to the past.

Or a door to the past. 🙂
janet
Yes, that’s more to the point, and the spirit, of the challenge.

Glad you and your daughter found her dress in LA. I have botten both my girls formal dresses downtown for all their highschool occasions. They have always wanted to stand out in their fashion style and not ever have the same style dress as other girls. I always suggest going to LA. To fellow shoppers, It is worth the drive and the day adventure.
It’s not far from her place in Pasadena, but it’s quite a trip from our Chicago area home. 🙂 Thank goodness for Southwest!

Fun, special and productive weekend and some beautiful doors. I’d put that in the win column, Janet. I do like the elevator doors.
It was all win, Dan.
What a lovely shopping trip, for a wedding dress. I just love those elevator doors, Janet, great find.
It was a wonderful time, Jean, and we got so much of the wedding planning done. I’d love to see more elevator doors be this interesting.
So close and yet so far, once again! Our paths will cross one of these days…
Yes, they will. I look forward to it.

Congratulations, Janet! Helping your daughter prepare for the big day must have been fun and a dessert of gelato and doors must have been the ideal topping. I liked the elevator doors; thanks for sharing!
Glad you enjoyed them, Gordon. We enjoyed the day greatly.
I really like those elevator doors, too. Also, the gold accents on the shop sure do jazz it up!
I think all blah elevator doors should be decorated. After all, how many of them are there??
janet
Its my first time to read a blog on doors. Now, I see why its quite fascinating. I think doors are work of art too plus the story and history behind them.
I’m glad you enjoyed the post. Feel free to join the challenge every Thursday. It’s lots of fun.
janet
I love photographing doors too – glad I’m not the only one 😉 x
You’re welcome to join the challenge any Thursday. Just go to Norm’s site to link your post. It’s lots of fun!
