Monday walk…to the phone booth

Once we get to the top of the Red Grade Road and drop down to our cabin, phone service is gone.  Unless you have a satellite phone or radio phone, you are unreachable by that device, which I have to admit is really quite nice!  However, there are times when a phone call is all that will do and a trip to the phone booth is in order.

I’ve walked to the phone booth, but more often, I drive up this road.

The cutoff is pretty rutty, so I park the van, then walk to the top of the ridge.

This phone booth has a fabulous view out over eastern Wyoming,

as well as one back towards the Bighorns.  Because of all the moisture this spring, there’s still quite a lot of snow on the high peaks.

The floor of the phone booth is rather attractive as well, although there’s certainly no privacy for Superman or Dr. Who to do their changing thing!

No phone books, either, but it’s my favorite place to make a call.

    And so cheap!

  3. I definitely like your phone booth better than the old boxes. 🙂

Well worth the walk and you can chose when to be in contact becaus at other times no one can disturb you.

  5. Beautiful.
May be a little “long distance” call, for us “older folks”, pun-wise.

    Hi Janet,
I’m still around. Still following your blog and enjoying it.
Been soooo busy moving from Florida to Georgia.
Don’t post anywhere as much as I used to.
About to move from a temporary apartment to our new home. Someone here has a car with a plate that reads: “Naperville”.
I keep wanting to ask them if they know you.
And every time I read Naperville, I smile. I associate it it with Smallville, home of Superboy.

    Enough 7:00 AM rambling.

    Have a good one.

    • Good morning, Randy. Wonderful to hear from you and that you’re ready to move into the new house. That’s exciting!

Made me smile to read that about the Naperville plate. Odds aren’t good that they know me, but you never know. I once met someone in Grindelwald, Switzerland who knew someone I was going to school with from Ft. Wayne, Indiana. 🙂

Yes, this phone booth is great for long distance calls as well as long-distance views, making it my favorite phone booth ever. Thanks for dropping by and for the update.

  6. What spectacular landscapes, and a place to just be.

I can’t believe that anywhere other than Antarctica still has snow! 🙂 🙂 No penguins though, Janet! I’d be scooting up there every day to make a call. Thanks for the link, darlin!

    • There may not be as much snow now, Jo, but one of the peaks often has a bit of snow even in August. Definitely no penguins!! I can get similar views (at least of the mountains) by going on horseback rides every day and some rides gives equally great views out over eastern Wyoming, so no need to visit the phone booth daily. 🙂 Sometimes when I’m riding and have my phone in my fanny pack for photos ops, I’ll here the ding that lets me know I’ve gotten high enough to have cell reception and my messages and texts are loading. So funny!

    Such magnificent beauty.

  9. My goodness! What a glorious treat to reward you for the journey high enough to have service. I’m with you. When we’re on the farm, phone service is pretty spotty, and often I have to stand in the back yard, facing the tallgrass prairie and the southwest, for service. It limits calls which is just fine with me, too.

    • Yes, it’s no trial to go call my family or friends, that’s for sure. 🙂 I imagine your view is quite nice as well, albeit very different.

  10. It’s always nice with a walk when the scenery is spectacular.

  11. JT Twissel says:

Nice looking phone booth, that’s for sure!

  12. At last, a phone booth with elbow room. Do you ever lose your train of thought while you are looking around while talking? I would.

    What a wonderful walk.

  14. joey says:

Oh lovely! When making a phone call is truly a pleasure! 🙂

  15. I think one would be hard pressed to find a more lovely location for a phone booth!

What a fabulous place to make a phone call, it’s beautiful 🙂

    • Maybe I should have titled the post Best. Phone. Booth. Ever…except that I really don’t love that style. Glad you enjoyed it and thanks for taking time to comment.
