Thursday Doors…avian doors

We at Thursday Doors have a loose/liberal interpretation of what constitutes a door.  Of course, to be fair, to a bird, a door is really just a hole in the front of its house, so this week I’m featuring some avian doors we saw while taking a Sunday bike ride along the lake shore in Indiana Dunes State Park.  More on the park at another time. Today it’s all about the doors.

To give credit where credit is due, the original bird brain behind all these doors (Door #1, Door #2, AND Door #3) is our Canadian goose, Norm. (I think he just started the challenge to feather his nest with views, but we love it anyway.)  Other than that, there’s no pecking order, so let’s fly over to see the doors.

All by myself (Thanks, Eric Carmen.)

One of our now-grown babies birds is flying home tonight, so I don’t know how much I’ll be around through the Labor Day weekend (and there might be work in there as well.)  I hope all of you have a wonderful four days, whether or not you’re celebrating Labor Day!

  8. Hahahaha! I loved your intro for Norm. Very clever. I love bird houses and these are swell!

I won’t be online very much over Labor Day week-end either. I’m headed back over to the Eastern Sierras. It’s where I’ve been hanging out for the last couple of week-ends. I too will be behind with blogs and emails come Tuesday.

Have a wonderful long week-end with your family!

  9. I like the colors and shape of the last house.

  11. I thought I’d seen a lot of birdhouses, but I’ve never seen a buoy. That is very unique. Hope you and your loved ones have a wonderful fun and safe long weekend. 🙂

I really like the doors you’ve shared today (yesterday, I’m running late). I’m sure they all say “welcome home” when the birds approach.

    • I think you’re right, Dan. Glad you enjoyed them. I’m going to be running late/missing getting to lots of blog posts this long weekend with a daughter home and me joining the cycling group tonight and tomorrow. Life is good. Enjoy your weekend as well and thanks for always dropping by.

  13. Lovely bird houses, Janet! I think you found the really fine print for TD posting that no one notices; I’m pretty sure it reads, TD has an “open door” policy! 😉

  14. joey says:

I love birdhouses. My dad built them for a few years and they’re just happy. Birdhouses are happy 😀 Good share! Enjoy your weekend, and baby bird(s)!

    • Glad you liked them, Joey. So far so good on the weekend (and yes, I know it’s only Friday.). Baby bird flew in last night, later than scheduled, but safely. 😎

  15. what a happy happy ‘neighborhood for the birds – or whatever creatures might want to claim one of those as home sweet home!

  16. Joanne Sisco says:

Awesome! I’m not the only one who likes to take photos of bird houses!! They’re just so damn cute 🙂
