Luxeuil…architecture

I suppose if you live in France, the architecture doesn’t seem as interesting as it does to me, a visitor from a place where older homes might have been built within the last century.  Of course styles are distinctly different as well.  As a member of Thursday Doors, I find that I have to remember to include photos that aren’t just doors.  🙂  But I managed to do it (although I won’t tell you how many doors photos I have.  You’ll have to tune in on Thursdays to see them.)

This house with its blue accents and gate and beautiful balconies caught my eye immediately.  (Why “caught my eye” when you hopefully have two?  Just wondering.)

By crossing the street, I could peek into the sort-of-secret-garden.  Despite the drought, it looks pretty good to me.

Heading back to the main street, we catch a glimpse of more royal-looking architecture.

I love the metal work here as well as more blue.  Of course all the stone doesn’t hurt either.

Looking the other way down main street.  Not exactly a four-lane road, is it?  I like that.

If you have to live downtown above the main street, you might as well have a glorious balcony like this one to observe life going by below while sipping a coffee or cup of tea.  Just as importantly, you’re only a very short distance from two great bakeries!

Then in the midst of all this history comes a pretty snazzy jolt of the present.  You won’t need the car yet, though.  We have more to see in Luxeuil.

  1. Wonderful balconies, doors, and views! I love the architecture in Europe too.

  2. Dan Antion says:

Lovely buildings. Now I can’t wait to see the doors!

I really like the gently curved windows/balcony doors.

  3. What’s not to love with these photos. That first house and then the large balcony had my drooling. Looks like you had another amazing visit. 🙂

    • I always have a good time there, Judy, and even though we often go to the same places, there’s always something new to admire or something I’ve seen before to enjoy again. That house and the balconies were favorites of mine as well…right up there with the tarts from the bakery. 🙂

  4. I like your street photos, Janet. Your love of architecture shines.

Great gallery of beauty and architecture – you know I love both!

  7. Joanne Sisco says:

Pretty balconies, terrace doors, and blue trim … all a winning combination.

Si charmant! I love the gate and the colors, so much yellow 🙂

What do you think? I'd love to hear your thoughts on this, that or the other thing.
