Thursday doors…unusual Philly doors

What did we do while I was in Philadelphia?  Ate well, stopped at many coffee shops, walked a lot, watched episodes of “Father Brown” in the evening…and took shots of doors (naturally).  The first door I saw is the first door in this post.  I was just ready to take a photo when the woman who lived there walked up.  I complimented her on the door and she said the artist had done more doors.  I can see why.

You may have noticed the unusual glass mosaic in the first shot.  There are a large number of these mosaics throughout the city (and quite something on a sunny day!)  Here’s a look at another example.

We took a Lyft ride back to my daughter’s apartment to spare ourselves the joy of trekking through the city and subway with a large rolling suitcase, extra bag, and backpack.  Here’s a through-and-over-the-window shot of a more traditional Philly door.

Here’s a very non-traditional door in my daughter’s apartment.  Take a close look and tell me what you see.

It’s good to be back to Thursday Doors and to blogging.  But it was also a lovely break in Philadelphia, where the weather turned out to be much better than anticipated and we had a great time.  So grateful that all the predicted rain did NOT arrive.  🙂

That painted door with mosaic surround is fabulous! Glad you had a great (and dry) trip.

Great doors Janet. The apartment door looks more like a painting than a photo. I do like the glass mosaics. I’m glad you had good weather – that always makes the trip even better.

I looked closely at that apartment door, and IT HAS YOUR NAME ON IT! That’s SO COOL! No, srsly, at first I was like, “I see a coat rack behind the door.” Then I saw it was a painting. Did you do it? It’s awesome!

    • I wish I could do something like that, but what you’re seeing is just my copyright information. 🙂 It’s an amazing door, isn’t it? It was done by a friend of my daughter.

Yep, totally missed that it was a painting. Saw the clothes rack. I love the first door too. Glad you had a good visit with your daughter.

  5. That first one has met a very good artist!

604 is quite a jazzy door, isn’t it?

Great variety of doors, Janet! We watch Father Brown too:):)
Am wondering about the wall mosaics – I wonder if it’s a group artists commissioned to do the work, and if the owners can let their favorite icons be put in? Wonder if it would make it harder to sell a house like this?

    • I’m not sure if the mosaics are done by a group. I’ll have to ask my daughter. They’re kind of a thing in Philly. 🙂 It might make it harder to sell, but it might also appeal more to some.

Glad you had a good trip Janet. An interesting gallery of doors here: the first is my favourite.

Oh that first door is sooooo wonderful! I just love its cheerful vibe, and all that yellow! What a great door!

Welcome back! Glad you had a good time in Philly. That first one is lovely but that painting of a door is my fave from this batch.
    Good collection Janet 🙂

    • I loved the painting the instant I saw it. How considerate of my daughter to have a cool door for me! 🙂 Philly has so many great doors that it’s like being in Europe–after a time, I can’t take any more shots, even though I’d like to. 🙂

  12. Beautiful doors, Janet.

I love all the colour in that first door and the photo in general! Definitely put a smile on my face 🙂
And, yes, it took me a long time looking at the last door to realise it’s actually a painting. Well done!

  14. Ohhh, I’d do my best to spot as many as I could by this artist and catch the sun in the mosaics. Such fun! As for the last photo, first I thought panties hanging but surely not. 😀

  15. Sarah says:

This door post is amazing! It reminds me of when I was in Morocco and was amazed by all the different doors I walked past. Places are amazing!

    • Hi, Sarah. There are so many different sorts of doors, which makes this challenge so much fun. Thanks for stopping by and also for commenting. Perhaps I’ll see you on another Thursday.
