Jo’s Monday Walk…the dog days of summer

Every year downtown Naperville has a theme that businesses for advertising, but in an artsy way. Several years ago, it was seats in the form of books, last year hearts. I wasn’t enthralled with the hearts, so I was happy to see “The Dog Days of Summer” was the theme, therefore there were dogs.

On a beautiful summer morning, I sat along the Riverwalk, sipping tea, reading, doing a bit of writing, relishing knowing there was no place I had to be except there.

I’d been wanting to get photos of some of the dogs, so that’s what I did next. Here are a few of the ones I saw that day.

Gotta love the goggles and shoes!

And from a different angle. I’m more of a stout (in the beer sense) person rather than ale, but I do love the dog.

If you zoom in, you can see the story behind this handsome fellow.

This last one looks more pensive than ex-zoo-berant, but I do love the tiger stripes. Now what? We can head back to the Riverwalk and walk a bit more or look for a coffee and a pastry. Or both! You choose.

  1. Are the dogs always there, or did they bring them in for the campaign? I went through Burlington, VT once and they had all the moose (mooses/meese?) statues decorated and loved seeing them. I think the statues are always there, though, as their sort of mascot decor. Not sure, though, as I was only passing through that one time.

Those are wonderful. I think these theme days are great. The world needs a little whimsy.

  3. Good idea, enjoyable walk

This kind of thing is always fun, Janet. Reminds me of Shaun the Sheep, but with more soulful faces. ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚ Nice, gentle way to spend a morning. Thanks a lot for linking.

  5. Charming public art, thanks.

Cute dogs. Since I’m trying really hard to stay with keto, I’ll take some more of the Riverwalk ๐Ÿ™‚

Looks like a lovely place to spend an afternoon.

I do like the idea of these themed public art installations. Weโ€™ve had owls and cows and giraffes and Easter eggs that I can recall. The system here seems to involve corporate sponsorship, outdoor display then an auction of at least some for a charitable cause. Except in the town of Morri Seville where they have an awful lot of painted cows on the Main Street.

    … or even Morrinsville ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

  10. Lignum Draco says:

Very cool. I wonder what happens to the dogs afterwards? Displayed permanently somewhere? Up for sale?

  11. I love these type art exhibits and have never seen dogs. The artists are to be applauded because these are really great canvases that certainly display their skills. ๐Ÿ™‚

  12. Oh my goodness, I love these! We have a bunch of painted hearts all over San Francisco (of course), and cartoonish elephants around Oakland… Pretty sure it’s a mascot for some sports team or other. I can’t say I’m a fan of those, but then again, I’m clearly not a fan of the team either…

    Adorable dogs, Janet.

Let’s walk around, photograph some more dogs, and enjoy the town until it’s time for some stout!
