Call me persnickety, but not only does “butter popcorn” sounds excessively greasy, but how on earth do you get it to pop? Tack on an “ed” and you’re looking at at my favorite snack (although I prefer homemade and not too much butter.)
I’d like to buy an “ed!”

I have to agree with this –
🙂
When your brain notices little details like that it tends to conjure up all the wrong imagery, doesn’t it? 🤣
But that’s what the sign actually says. LOL. Without the “ed”, it’s popcorn made of butter. Grammar matters!!! 🙂
Your English teachers would be proud. 🙂
🙂 I grew up this way and can’t help seeing or hearing when something is wrong. One thing I’ve noticed on TV is that many announcers leave of “ly”, as in “That happened really quick” instead of “quickly.” People for the Ethical Treatment of Adverbs are NOT happy! 🙂
I love it – Ethical Treatment of Adverbs. I went to 12 years of Catholic school with the nuns so I look at sentences and could diagram them in my head. 🙂
Ran out of room? I think I’d like it with the ‘ed’ as well.
I’ve heard many people say “butter popcorn”, so I don’t think it’s running out of space. Ah, well, most people won’t even notice.
Yeah, that’s as bad as Smoke meat. Does that mean you roll it up and try to light the bloody end?
Yes!! Exactly.
Attention to detail goes a long way most of the time!
🙂 Unfortunately, I’ve heard more than one person say “better popcorn.” But as I said to Dan just now, people will know what the sign is supposed to mean, so it only bothers grammar nuts like me.
I’m with you, Janet. You should see me cringe at the spelling errors on Facebook…
Yes, there’s another place. All those memes. Sigh.
😀
I read a wonderful article once, detailing the tremendously competitiveness between popcorn people on how to get the biggest “pop” from a kernel of popcorn. It has to do with the amount of water they can get into each kernel that explodes into popcorn. Fascinating.
That does sound interesting, Scott. I love popcorn and so long as it’s not doused in better, it’s a rather good snack.
Sometimes I laugh at all the misspelling and shortening of words and words left out…but sometimes I only get tired. What is it with people? This one was almost OK though….
Haha Yes, you are persnickety and what a lovely word that is. Almost as delicious as buttered popcorn. 😅
And less fattening. 🙂
I’m totally with you on this Janet.
🙂 Then we can share some popcorn…the real stuff!
Popcorn is my favorite as well!
