Thursday doors…downward doors

Downward doors is a yoga pose similar to downward dog, but used by photographers taking photos of doors that are below street level. This pose shouldn’t be held too long, Yogi Norm warns, lest the photographer’s friends and family move too far for the photographer to easily catch up and because there are many more doors left to photograph. You have been warned!

I took care when shooting these three doors in Luxeuil-les-bains in France. I didn’t want to strain my muscles and not be able to make it to the bakery and coffee shop! (Full disclosure: I know you’ll be relieved to know that I held each pose for just the right amount of time and was thus able to fully appreciate both shops .)

The flowers certainly add to the ambiance of this door. Not so sure about the plants on the stairs. πŸ™‚

Lots of arches for you arches lovers and some hardware, too.

  1. Love, love, love the first door, and thank heavens you maintained your priorities. That is essential to enjoy a bakery visit. I’m proud of you. πŸ™‚

    These are such lovely doors!

  3. Joanne Sisco says:

Great discoveries! I always find doors below street level rather odd. The first one has an air of mystery to it accentuated by the plants.

Hydrangeas and an old, wood door? Looks like a secret passageway to me! Great theme for your photos today.

  5. Your yoga session was great on this day! 😜😜 I really like the first downward door best.

  6. Su Leslie says:

Thank you for the chuckle Janet; I’ll remember this next time I’m doing yoga (or photographing low-down stuff).

These are lovely and each quite unique. The flower bush in the first one dresses it up nicely. For the second one I think even smaller people are gonna need a helmet πŸ˜‰
And of course though it all it’s good to know you were thinking ahead to make sure you didn’t do anything to jeopardize your bakery visit.

  8. Junieper2 says:

Great door, Janet! Hope you didn’t bend over too long for this one! In Europe cellar /basement doors seem much more common than here.

  9. Sue says:

    Oh, what AMAZING doors, Janet!

  10. Dan Antion says:

Good job going above (or below) the and beyond the call to snag some great photos of some wonderful doors.

  11. Downward door pose… I’ll chuckle next time I do yoga πŸ™‚

Thanks for all the arches! I love that first door, with the flowers above and the ferns on the steps. Maybe not so convenient, but so lovely!

    Arches are definitely beautiful.

    These are beautiful images, Janet.
