Rest stop

Long-distance driving requires periodic breaks so many highways have rest areas to make it easy and free. On the first day, I drove eleven and a half hours with two breaks for gas/bathroom. That made day two much shorter and easier.

About three hours along, I stopped at a Texas rest stop to switch from glasses to contacts. The stone building was built into a hill.

Inside was a presentation on the use of wind, although windmills looked quite different in the early days, like those on my grandparents’ farm in Nebraska.

Although the day was cloudy, Texas has a lot of sun, so these creative defenses are ordinarily quite useful.

There are many rest areas, but not all with signs like this one.

I hope you enjoyed stretching your legs and taking a break. Now back in the van and on we go.

🙂 I like these kind of stops, where you get to see something. However, if I try to cover some distance, I try not to waste too much time for stops – apart from the gas/bathroom stops – either. It sounds like your doing well! Hopefully!?
Take care and have a safe journey, dear Janet!
    Many hugs xo
    Claudia 🙂

    • Doing very well, Claudia. I’m staying with my parents while I’m down here and it’s always good to see them. In a few hours I’ll be going over to look at the rental house and hopefully sign the lease.

      Many hugs in return.

  2. Haha, those signs are there for people like me. I love to explore off the pavement when I stop at places like that. Safe travels!

  3. I liked the stop and wish you safe travels!

That rest stop looks vaguely familiar to me from when we were in TX. Love the windmill. Safe travels.

Having almost stepped on a rattlesnake once, I would definitely heed that sign!

  7. Long trip, but it sounds like you have it under control. Now, get lucky with the rentals. 🙂

    Good to hear, Janet!

That sign would get me back in my car. I would probably take too long reading all the info in that exhibit.

Stretching your legs is much easier when there’s a rattlesnake to provide incentive! 😀

Road trips are interesting, and those rest breaks are always a treat. Hum… rattlesnake warnings… not so much!
