Long-distance driving requires periodic breaks so many highways have rest areas to make it easy and free. On the first day, I drove eleven and a half hours with two breaks for gas/bathroom. That made day two much shorter and easier.
About three hours along, I stopped at a Texas rest stop to switch from glasses to contacts. The stone building was built into a hill.

Inside was a presentation on the use of wind, although windmills looked quite different in the early days, like those on my grandparents’ farm in Nebraska.

Although the day was cloudy, Texas has a lot of sun, so these creative defenses are ordinarily quite useful.

There are many rest areas, but not all with signs like this one.

I hope you enjoyed stretching your legs and taking a break. Now back in the van and on we go.
🙂 I like these kind of stops, where you get to see something. However, if I try to cover some distance, I try not to waste too much time for stops – apart from the gas/bathroom stops – either. It sounds like your doing well! Hopefully!?
Take care and have a safe journey, dear Janet!
Many hugs xo
Claudia 🙂
Doing very well, Claudia. I’m staying with my parents while I’m down here and it’s always good to see them. In a few hours I’ll be going over to look at the rental house and hopefully sign the lease.
Many hugs in return.
Haha, those signs are there for people like me. I love to explore off the pavement when I stop at places like that. Safe travels!
Thanks, Madison. I like to explore when I have some time, but on a trip like this, even if I don’t have a long day I tend to just keep on going. I may stop a few more places on the way back, places I saw that looked interesting. And by the way, I made it safely.
Glad to know you’ve arrived and safely! Enjoy your new home and let me know when you’re ready for a package 🙂
I will! I’m excited about that. We won’t be moving at least until the end of the month, though. Lots to do when I get back!
I liked the stop and wish you safe travels!
I’m pretty sure there weren’t any rattlesnakes out that day. It was pretty chilly and windy. Thankfully I did have safe travels and now have until the middle of next week too, once the house thing is taken care of, relax and spend some time with my parents.
Have you found a house, or you’re doing that now? I know you’ll see some neat, and lovely things while you’re there.
We’ve found a house and if all is as it seems, I’ll be signing the lease today.
I’ll send positive vibes your way so it goes the way you want it too! ☺
Good to hear you’ve found a house
Signed the lease today and it’s a beauty!!
Oh, fab! I’m so pleased for you, Janet!
Thanks!! I’m very happy and relieved that it was so easy.
Sounds like a result!
That rest stop looks vaguely familiar to me from when we were in TX. Love the windmill. Safe travels.
😁. Thanks. The trip went really well. Hopefully the trip back next week will go as smoothly.
Having almost stepped on a rattlesnake once, I would definitely heed that sign!
I agree!
Long trip, but it sounds like you have it under control. Now, get lucky with the rentals. 🙂
Thanks. The house is great and I signed the lease this morning. 😁
Good to hear, Janet!
Thanks!
That sign would get me back in my car. I would probably take too long reading all the info in that exhibit.
I did want to read all the signs but I was on a driving mission. 😉. Another time.
Stretching your legs is much easier when there’s a rattlesnake to provide incentive! 😀
😁😁😁
Sounds like one heckuva long drive. Safe travels 🙂
Thanks, Norm.
Safe travels! I bet you are excited to get into the warm, shining sun!
It’s in the mid-eighties today, Nicole. Mostly doing “work” stuff but enjoying the sunshine.
Oh so jealous! Tomorrow it is supposed to be 63 here in Minneapolis. I’m so glad the winter has been so mild. But I do love an Arizona winter. Enjoy all the sunshine Janet! All those hikes are waiting too. Ah….
Yes, there will be lots of new places to explore once we get finally moved. That will be fun.
Road trips are interesting, and those rest breaks are always a treat. Hum… rattlesnake warnings… not so much!
I agree all around. I’ve been at a few not-so-mice rest areas, but lots of lovely a/o interesting ones.
