Day 1 update and thoughts

Nothing like good friends when you have no beds or furniture on general.

Note to self: clean fridge more often! General note: cleaning a fridge isn’t fun at the best of times. Cleaning one when you want to just get done and on the road is excruciating!!

Having lots and lots of things you need to have someone pick up when there’s a shelter-in-place order is impossible. Garbage men will only take things in bags. (Ever tried bagging a hammock? Didn’t think so. Just know it does NOT work!) and the junk-picking-up companies aren’t now. Dear owner: things in the garage aren’t as bad as they appear. Really!

Bit of COVID-19 humor. My husband got this prize in the local grocery store Monopoly game. I challenged him to go back and try to redeem it.

Gas prices are amazing right now. Filling up for $1.79 a gallon doesn’t even hurt at all. 😊. There are a lot less cars on the road, even in St. Louis during rush hour, although it was still hectic enough. And the virus hasn’t had an impact on construction.

The sunset tonight was beautiful, an enormous orange ball. Unfortunately, it was right on the middle of the road for at least three days…or seemed like it. Eventually we went in a different direction, literally, but there was still beauty as you can see from this (very carefully taken) shot. Disclaimer: I’m not responsible for the smushed bugs on the windshield. Well, maybe I am in a way, but Hey, I didn’t force them to fly into the glass..

That’s it for tonight from Springfield, Missouri. After the last few days and six hours of cleaning this morning, the 7 1/2 hours on the road was pretty much just fun. 🤪. Bed is going to seem so good tonight and that’s where I’m headed. TTFN. More tomorrow.

Travel safe Janet. At least should not be so many on the road now

  2. Su Leslie says:

    Safe travels Janet

You’re correct in assuming that I’ve never tried to put a hammock in a garbage bag. You must be psychic to know that. You amaze.

  4. Enjoy the rest of your trip and stay safe. Cleaning the refrigerator? That is my absolutely most unfavorite job.

  5. I didn’t have to try and stuff into bags thankfully! We rented a dumpster for a week and tossed everything we didn’t want or wasn’t worth donating in it. A couple of times we saw men rummaging through it and taking things from it. A huge piece of plywood, and some extra lattice from when we repaired our patio cover, and the fence was taken straight-away! We were surprised but happy someone had a need for the stuff.

I’m glad you made it to the friend’s and hope you slept soundly. Safe journey today!

    • Normally people drive around and pick up things that are good and take them to resell, but nobody’s doing that now. And normally the garbagemen take pretty much everything. But again, not now. Up until a few days before we left, Goodwill was still taking donations. But they’d stopped by the time we left.

    Safe travel, Janet.

Hope your move goes smoothly and you get settled in before you know it.

Quite a challenge to try and get moved at a time like this. Hoping everything goes as smoothly as possible. I got one of those coupons today too – you’d think they would have had a surplus if they knew they were going to be included in the giveaways.

  11. Dan Antion says:

The light traffic and low gas prices must be welcome. Stay safe out there, Janet.

    Hi Janet,

Valerie and I were wondering how you were faring with your move at (it had to be) this time. I’m glad to see you’re still in possession of your sense of humour. Hang in there. This, too, shall pass.

    Love, D+V

    • I saw you were writing again and Valerie has new posts put as well. Once we get home, new home, I plan to read them and also email you to get you caught up. We’re doing quite well and hope the same for both of you.

      Love from us both.

  13. kirizar says:

That’s a lot of driving. Are you going home or just taking advantage of low gas prices and open roads for sightseeing adventures from your car?

    • We’re moving from Chicago to Phoenix. 🙂 So we’re going home to a new rental house and a new place. Otherwise we’d just be staying mostly at home.

Best of luck! I left Chicago after my husband died, I still miss living in such a diverse and interesting place. But I’m sure you’ll appreciate Arizona winters a lot more!

      • I actually like winter, but we had good reasons for moving here, so I’ll do my best to adjust. 😉. So far, we’re really liking it but the hot season hasn’t arrived yet.
