Teatime with Su & friends

I’d planned to make dark chocolate cherry scones, but that didn’t work out. (I’m also trying to find more whole wheat pastry flour but have had no success so far. Maybe people are making toilet paper from it.). But I had some Trader Joe’s croissants in the freezer, so last night I pulled out one chocolate (AKA pain au chocolat) and one almond for my husband. Just let them sit all night and bake in the morning. Easy peasey and quite tasty, too.

The mug, filled with Mao Feng black tea, was a gift from my parents a few Christmases ago. Not as fancy as some of my teacups, but much used. I’d be happy to get you a fancier, more delicate cup of you like.

Happy teatime!

Here in Italy, flour appears to be the only thing in short supply in our local supermarket. Looks as though everyone is baking their own bread during lockdown. We are now in our sixth week of staying at home by law, wearing masks and surgical gloves when we visit the supermarket or pharmacy and having to take documentation with us stating our reason for being out. It’s become the new normal for now. Hope you’re keeping safe.

    • There still seem to be toilet paper hoarders here but I was surprised about the flour. I have plenty bread flour and a bag of all-purpose, but my scones require whole wheat pastry flour which isn’t as easy to find under normal conditions. Fortunately we’re not nearly as locked down, although I wear a mask when I go to the grocery store. Most places clean the grocery cart handles for us and if not, I wipe them. We don’t need documentation but other than groceries or my morning walk, I just stay home. Taking a drive would actually be safe is you didn’t get out of the car. At any rate, we’re safe so far, as are the rest of our family. You two stay safe as well. Italy has really been hit hard!

Like that mug! And I do like a pain au chocolat!!

  4. Lovely setting for a soothing cup of tea.
I think everyone is baking more these days.
Have we returned to the days of our mother’s domesticity?

    • It’s so nice to sit down with a cup of tea, although I drink tea throughout the day and not always while sitting. I hope all that flour is being used for baking, although if so, probably a lot of non-nutritious calories being consumed. 🙂

      • It might be a dooms-day mentality. Eat because what-the-heck there may not be a tomorrow. ~~~ : – ( Sad …

      • I’m more worried about people like those who flood beaches once restrictions loosen and definitely are NOT 6′ apart. We need to loosen, but if it’s not done in a way that’s safe, we’ll have another wave of this and have to go back to restrictions again.

      • They opened up a beach 3 hours north of where I live. People were everywhere. They are not thinking clearly. I suppose they feel invincible. We can only take care of ourselves and hope these people don’t spread anything. Have a super healthy week … 🙏

  5. No, that mug will do nicely thanks! Miam, pain au chocolat! I haven’t had one in ages!

I drink my tea out mugs most the time too. Right now, my tea is piping hot in a mug with a rooster design on it.😀

I respect that tea cup. I like the composition in the photo. Nicely done.

  7. Looks good to me. 🙂 I have a vase similar to yours. Like them both.

  8. Ally Bean says:

Love the photo. Love the mug. Well said.

Love the mug, and also that lovely vase, Janet. Do you think your husband would notice if I pinched his almond croissant? I much prefer those 🙂 🙂

  11. JT Twissel says:

No whole wheat flour? Wow. At least you had something yummy in the freezer!

    • No whole wheat pastry flour, a slightly different animal. There was whole wheat flour in at least one store, but flour is the new TP, I guess. 🙂 Thank goodness for that freezer!

Yum to the pain au chocolate, and I’m off to Google the tea.

  16. […] at This, That and the Other Thing really knows her teas — and has paired a yummy pain au chocolat with Mao Feng black tea. […]

  17. The mug is fabulous and the chocolate croissant looks so fluffy! Lovely tea time treat 🙂

  18. This is the season for improvisation … you set up a lovely tea regardless. And I love your stunning blue vase!

  19. Sarah says:

The mug is perfect, Janet, and I like pain au chocolat very much too! 😄 I’m experiencing the same about the whole wheat rye flour which I’m using for my sourdough breads. Normally no one seems bothered to buy it except me but I haven’t been able to purchase it in weeks now. 😂 I think you might be up to something about people making toilet paper from it. 😉

    • Thanks for stopping by for tea and goodies, Sarah. Isn’t the internet wonderful, especially for this sort of thing? I think of the days growing up when I had a pen pal in Australia and I had to wait for days or weeks for a letter. There was something fun about that as well, though, the anticipation adding to the enjoyment of getting a letter.

The whole toilet paper thing baffles me, because this disease doesn’t cause diarrhea and there wouldn’t be a shortage if people weren’t hoarding. I’ve read that because businesses aren’t using TP (being closed) that more people are using it at home and commercial TP is different from home use TP, so producers had to transition. Who knows?

      Good luck with the flour!

      • Sarah says:

I used to have pen pals too when I was a kid, though not as far as Australia! It was such fun, and I really loved the anticipation of receiving a letter from them. Nowadays emails are much faster though. 😀

I was/am equally baffled – if no one had started hoarding there wouldn’t have been any shortages at all. Ah well, I guess that’s human nature.

      • Email is faster and mostly that’s good. But one downside is that people expect emails to be answered immediately, somewhat like texts. I try not to be on or checking my phone all the time and turned off notifications for WordPress because otherwise I was looking at it all the time. 🙂

      • Sarah says:

I’m doing the same with my notifications from WP and I’m known for not replying to my emails instantaneously. 😉 Also trying not to be on my phone too much. 😉

  20. Almond croissant sounds delish and I must try Mao Feng tea.

    • There are so many types of tea, which makes it both fun and frustrating (the latter because I can’t try them all/can’t afford them all.) 🙂 I also really like Pu-erh, which is good for digestion and the only tea the improves with age. Thanks for stopping by to share tea and goodies. I’m looking forward to the next party. If you’re interesting, today’s blog post tells how I’m making lemonade. 🙂
