Don’t get in a flap!

I admit it. I’ve been bored. Bored with not seeing anything new or much of anything at all on my walks, bored with dry dirt, bored with the “river” being a canal, happy to get out and walk…but bored.

Then Wednesday I went to the Riparian Preserve at Water Ranch and bored went by the board! These last few days have been cool (only up to 90F constitutes cool here) and the mornings have been below 60F. Perfect!

On the very first day, I saw some amazing things and was able to take some fantastic photos. But about an hour in, the memory card on my camera filled up! Nooooooo!! There I was, frantically trying to find photos I could delete in case another perfect opportunity came along. 🙂

You’re allowed to feed the ducks, other birds, and turtles if using the correct food, which is why the ducks at least aren’t overly afraid of people. In fact as I walked along the large lake where most of the people go, two drakes motored over expectantly, looking offended when I didn’t offer them any food. Well excuuuuse me! I squatted down near a duck and her teenagers the first day and one of the little ones came within a foot of my foot. Mom didn’t get in a flap about it. But this one yesterday decided to air out its wings a bit.

Tomorrow I’ll share one of the bee photos I mentioned to several of you on World Bee Day. Sorry to make you wait another day, but I wanted to use it for Six Word Saturday. There will also be a video coming up that’s worth the wait.

Have a wonder-filled weekend!

  1. I am looking forward to the bee photo!

  2. Glad you’re finding new outside opportunities, and I think you need to carry a second card. 🙂

Nice duck photo. I mean, talk about a cooperative model. Pity you didn’t get your ducks in a row and remember to carry an extra memory card with you. 😉

    • Ducks in a row! Well done, Ally. The memory card holds almost 4,000 photos, so it seemed as if it would go on forever. The new card is much, much larger, so I should be good for a very, very long time. I should get into the habit, though, of checking regularly, maybe every time I charge the battery.

    Dear Janet,

It sounds as though you’ve found a good place to walk now. Is it far from your house or within walking distance? Ducks are such delightful creatures. Arms to fly with, feet to swim and beak to filter and dig silt and preen away to their hearts content. (I’ve done the mad delete thing with my iPhone so many times I can’t count). Looking forward to more.

    Cheers,

    Doug

    What is proper duck food?

  6. Oh, I love how you controlled the wings there! I’m glad you found a more exciting spot for your walk!

  7. Glad to see you’re getting out into the “unbored” and more interesting sites to shoot your wonderful pics. Randy

I don’t mind waiting for that bee photo while you entertain us this way, Janet!

  9. Beautiful little Ms Fancy Duck. 😍

Hahaha – love your play on words – bored and board –
And the flap photo was fun.
And I am glad they make sure it is the right kind of food – even though I am on the fence about feeding animals with human hands – even before the pandemic –
And love your “excuuuuuuse me” ha

  11. restlessjo says:

Glad you vankwished the boredom 🙂 🙂 (you know about my missing ‘ ‘?)

    • I’m glad I got rid of it, too. I’ll go there again on Monday before the real heat starts. I think I did know about your missing ‘, but I don’t recall now. 😦

Only on the laptop, and I often reply on my phone, just to confuse people. And myself because I forget! 🙂 🙂 Hope you’re having a happy Saturday.

At least your have found somewhere to walk , and there might be more places.

  13. Whimsy Mimsy says:

I love the bird photos. I miss my chickens! Although I’m a bit afraid of bees, I love them, and can’t wait to see the photo!!

What do you think? I'd love to hear your thoughts on this, that or the other thing.
