I hate to be negative, but Amy’s asking us to go that way this week and I must comply. I actually use a lot of negative space when taking macros, so I had a difficult time deciding what photos to use even when only going through a couple files, trying for some variety.
Thanks for stopping by and hopefully you’re enjoying your weekend.
Great shots!
Thanks very much, Lily. 🙂

gorgeous images. my favourite is the third one.
Thanks very much, Klara. I like that one, too.

Well, if we’re going to be negative, I sure like your take on it. 🙂
I try to be positively while being negative, Judy. 🙂 Thanks!
Excellent examples Janet! I loved the little bird and the twig especially. Is that a spider’s creation or a bit of passing spores that got caught???
Thanks, Tina. I believe that was a spider creation. They do marvelous work, don’t they?
They do indeed Janet – preferably not on my front porch!!!
On a dewy morning in the park, all the spider webs stood out because they were bedecked with droplets. It was astonishing how many there were and how beautiful, but yes, in the park and not in or around the house.
I’m in awe…., Janet. All are beautiful/ Great examples for negative space. The spider shot is so very amazing! 🙂
Thanks so much, Amy. I do love negative space, so this was an enjoyable challenge for me although as I said, it made choosing difficult. 🙂
So very cool. 🙂
Thanks a lot. 🙂 Hope you’re having a wonderful weekend.
janet
Yes, thank you. Your days seem to be filled with adventure, and how lucky is that?
I don’t know that they’re filled with adventure, but there is some every so often. 🙂
🙂
You had me worried – very nice work, Janet!
🙂 Many thanks, Dan.
Cute little bird – I liked all of your negative space.
I’d forgotten about that little bird. Whenever I scroll through files, I always find a lot of photos that I’d forgotten about but really like. Glad you enjoyed these, Peggy.
😊
Amazing photos!
Thanks so much! I’m happy you like them.
janet
I love your photos. Were the backgrounds really this empty or did you photoshop them? Either way, they are very effective.
They were this empty, Judy, and I’m glad you love them. 🙂 No photoshopping.
janet
In addition to your stunning photo subjects, your backgrounds are so varied and simply interesting. Really good response to the prompt. I didn’t think they were photoshopped and hope it wasn’t rude to ask.
Not at all, Judy. I know sometimes people really edit shots, so it’s understandable that you’d wonder.
I decided long ago that if I went into the photoshop world, I’d never come out of it, so beyond cropping and edits I can do in my photos app, I abstain.
I used to see photos in shops or art shows and I’d wonder how they got such rich colors. I realize now that those photos have to be saturated and edited, probably heavily in some cases. I try to get the colors the way I saw them if they didn’t turn out that way, but unless playing with editing just for fun, I sort of feel like it’s cheating. 🙂
Yep, impeccable examples of Negative Space, Janet!
Thank you very much, Sue. 🙂
You’re welcome!
I like all of your photos!
Thanks very much, Aletta. It was a tough decision as I use negative space quite often.
I can imagine because you have so many to choose from
I have thousands and thousands of photos between my Nikon shots and my phone shots. At one point in the distant past, I also had iPad photos (before I got a phone with a camera.) It’s fun browsing through them, though, at least when I’m not in a hurry to find something. 🙂
☺️👍
Wow, these are lovely!
Thanks so much, Teresa. It makes me happy to know you like them.

Wonderful examples of using negative space, Janet! I especially love the little bell-like flowers at the top. YUMMY bokeh and sweet little blossoms.
Good morning, Deborah, and thanks so much. I’m a big fan of negative space, especially for macros. I’m glad you like that first shot. I love it, too. Enjoy your Sunday, my friend.
😀 Enjoy your Sunday too!
Janet – I love the mood of each photo and they feel so professional –
Thanks, Yvette. That made my day!
Well happy to add some cheer to your day – and from some of the other comments here – others feel the same way! Nice selections for the theme
Beautiful images!
Many thanks, Paulie. I’m glad you liked them and I appreciate your visit and comment. Hope you’re enjoying your Sunday.

Wow, Janet. These are all great examples of using negative space very effectively. I love that little bird!
Thanks so much, Patti. That little bird’s pretty cute all right. Hope you’re having a great Sunday.
Wonderful images Janet. I love the first two especially
Hi, Su, and thanks very much. How are you doing?
I’m feeling pretty good. The surgery went really well and I’m waiting for biopsy results. I’ve been a bit woolly-headed from the anaesthetic, but otherwise fine.
Great to hear! I had a small skin cancer removed early this year, so I know how that goes. 🙂
Excellent photos. I love the bird on the sill.
Hi, John. Thanks and thanks for dropping by. That bird’s pretty cute, isn’t it? Hope you’re having a good Tuesday.
janet
Thank you Janet. I hiked 6+ miles today. I’m too old for this!
🙂 It’ll keep you from getting old or at least old and out-of-shape.
They’re all fantastic selections for the challenge this week, Janet.
The spider web is magical. Well done … Be Safe
Izzy 😎
I have a thing for spider webs, especially if they’re covered with water droplets. Good thing I have a lot of photos of them like that already, as there aren’t many drops here to see and not the mass quantity of webs I always saw in the Illinois park. 🙂
Beautiful! The most positive negative I’ve ever seen!
Then I have succeeded, Resa. 🙂 Many thanks.
Lovely set, Janet.
Thank you. 🙂
These are stunning photos! Can you tell me what lens/camera you used?
I have a Nikon D5300 but I’m sort of ashamed to admit I still take photos on Auto. I plan to start working on getting off Auto and practicing “real” photography. 🙂 I usually use the telephoto from a distance for macro shots and it’s a Nikon DX 55-300mm. I use the telephoto mainly because I don’t want to schlep around a number of lenses, but I have macro lens that I need to start working with, too. For animals and similar things, the telephoto is the best.

You and I sound very similar! 😊 I keep the camera handy and if time permits I’ll do manual settings. But that camera did an amazing job on auto! I’m in the market and will check it out. I used to use my son’s Nikon. But he moved out! Time to buy my own! Thanks for the info. Again, great photos!
Glad I could help a little. 🙂
Wonderful feel of negative space in all your photos, Janet. That bird image is so stunning. ❤
Thank you so much, Olga. 🙂 Have a wonderful weekend.

[…] of This, That and The Other Thing showed us some terrific examples of negative space in her macro […]
Excellent macro photos. I’m especially impressed with the one of the little bird. It’s easy to get flowers to hold still (well, most of the time), but birds not so much. I like each shot you’ve posted!
Thanks. It makes me happy to read that and I appreciate you taking time to comment as well visit and “like.” 😊
