Morning is my favorite time of day to be out and about, so many of my walks include a sunrise. I love the feeling of anticipation, of the new days, of possibilities.

Sunrise looks spectacular in the nature; sunrise looks spectacular in the photos; sunrise looks spectacular in our dreams; sunrise looks spectacular in the paintings, because it really is spectacular!
― Mehmet Murat ildan

Leaving our cabin in Wyoming in 2017, I had to pause on my way down the mountin to catch a spectacular sunrise the morning of the eclipse. At the time of the actual eclipse, I was in the Badlands.

Sometimes sunrise doesn’t look the way we usually visualize it.

At sunrise everything is luminous but not clear.”
― Norman Maclean, “A River Runs Through It and Other Stories

Sometimes morning is full of promise, leading you into the day.

At sunrise, the blue sky paints herself with gold colors and joyfully dances to the music of a morning breeze.
― Debasish Mridha

If you want to be reminded of the love of the Lord, just watch the sunrise.
― Jeannette Walls, “Half Broke Horses”

Where we live now in the desert, sunrise is generally sudden. The sun isn’t there…and then it is. There isn’t much to block its rising.

O, Sunlight! The most precious gold to be found on Earth.
― Roman Payne

There’s a sunrise and a sunset every single day, and they’re absolutely free. Don’t miss so many of them.

Serendipitous moment as I’m enjoying this beautiful post of yours just as the sun is rising over South Africa!

  5. JohnRH says:

Wow. Beautiful photos! The sun is so bright in that snowy path shot that it’s hard to look at it. Well done.

  6. Teresa says:

Wonderful images, janet. Love that grey icy road leading up to the sun and gray clouds.

  7. ledrakenoir says:

Wonderful moments captured, mornings are mine favorites too – a really good “jump out of bed” reason. 🙂

Great captures of sunrises. I am always outside during early morning to capture every gorgeous sunrise that happens. God paints some beautiful pictures in the sky. Sunrises and Sunsets are my favorite things to view and photograph.

Beautiful captures that show the diversity of your area. And wow … the opening pic set the stage for the others. Awesome.

What a beautiful series, Janet! Love the first image especially. 🙂

    • That was an amazing morning, Amy. I often get good sunrise shots going down the mountain, as I leave early, but it was as if this was foreshadowing the eclipse…and honestly, I thought it was much more spectacular. 🙂

  13. Resa says:

    All brilliant photos, Janet.
    Spectacular at times.

  14. Tina Schell says:

…and speaking of glorious images 😊! These are wonderful Janet – but I had to smile about your comment that the sun simply appears in the desert. On the other hand, I’ve seen many an incredible sunset out there! Hold onto those images for future use. Beautiful images and quotes to go with them.

    • We were driving to Tucson one morning and the sun just started coming up in an enormous red ball and was up in no time. It seems so fast when there’s nothing to block its rising. 🙂 Of course there are also wonderful sunsets, but I’m usually home at that time and the houses all around keep me from getting any good shots.

  15. aekshots says:

Some very nice sunrise/sunset shots Janet…well done 🙂

  16. Beautiful sunrises Janet!

  17. pattimoed says:

Wow, wow, wow, Janet. That canal shot is a stunner. I also love the one of the tracks in the snow. Beautiful collection. I admire you early morning people!! I drag through the morning and pick up steam in the afternoon and evening!! Take care and be well.

    • I can’t take credit for being a morning person, Patti. It’s just how I’m wired. My husband is the opposite way. He can stay up late.

I’m happy you enjoyed the photos, too. 🙂
