This challenge is a bit like “Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego”, although my repertoire of locations is much more limited! This is Day 7 of posting ten travel photos without explanation and then nominating someone else to do the same. (I was nominated by Su from Zimmerbitch.) Today I nominate Aletta of nowathome, coming to you all the way from South Africa. If you participate, please link back to this post. Now let’s travel!

Great photo wherever it is!
It’s Devil’s Tower, Wyoming, not far into Wyoming from the South Dakota border. It’s a volcanic extrusion with a number of Indian legends as to how it came into being. Here are some of them: https://www.nps.gov/deto/learn/historyculture/first-stories.htm. I think you’ll find them interesting.
P.S. You can almost always find a hint or outright give-away as to where my photos are from in the tags right below the title. The only time I don’t do that is if it’s supposed to be guessed for some reason. 🙂

Janet, thanks for the additional information and link.
My pleasure, Sheree, and thanks for your faithful reading and commenting!
My pleasure
Woo hoo!!!!! … I know that one. Got to visit several years ago – but I didn’t make it to the top.
Ha, nor did we. It’s quite impressive, isn’t it?
Very much so …. If I recall, I think a forest is on top.
Hmmm, I don’t think so because it’s all rock but there are trees all around at the bottom where you walk to go around the tower.
I stand corrected … from National Park Service – The summit is slightly dome shaped and rocky, with native grasses, cactus, and sagebrush. Chipmunks, mice, pack rats and the occasional snake are found on top.
Thanks for the information, Frank. It makes me wonder how on earth those animals get up there!!
The unknown elevator inside
Ha! There’s an old wooden ladder that climbers used years ago but I think that and the elevator are out of commission. 😳🤭😊
🙉
I always enjoyed seeing the climbers, tiny in the distance inching their way to the top
Better them than me!!
I camped there in the mid 80’s and have always wanted a return trip with my current camera gear.
😀
Looks impressive, never heard of or seen a photo before, so thanks. I find the no caption bit frustrating sometimes when i see an intriguing photo and want to know where it is without having to ask 🙂
At least on my blog, you can always find the answer right under the title in my tags. But I understand that frustration. In this case, it’s a gigantic lava extrusion called Devil’s Tower in north east Wyoming. 🙂

Thanks for the visit, Madhu.
