Although I often look down or out, today I’m looking up and joining Beckyβs January Square Ups with a photo of a balloon I often see on my morning walks along the canal or in our neighborhood. I’d much rather be looking up at it than down from it, although I’m sure the views are spectacular. I just have a thing about heights.
for SquareUp 1.11.21
A lot of people have a thing about heights. I’ve got worse as I’ve got older but I’d still love to be up there…just once! π π
I might be able to screw up my courage to go up, but I’m not sure. I guess once you’re on the way up, you’re going. π So if you can get that far…
π π
Ah, I love seeing balloons, but like you I hate heights.
We can admire from afar, Peggy. π
I’m with you! I’d rather be looking up at this. I did ride in one ONE TIME and the scenery was fabulous, but I don’t think I’d do it again!
I can just imagine what a view you get!
So interesting that such a simple image can be so beautiful. One thing with a solid background. π
Things in the sky here often have a solid background as the sky is usually cloudless. π
What a handsome balloon, and I’m with you – I prefer looking up. π
It’s funny that when looking for photos for this “Up” challenge I had a harder time than if it had been “Down.” I look for so many small things that are often on or near the ground or at eye level that “up” is a bit harder to find. π
Something I still want to do!
I’m sure it’s quite something.
π
Up, up and away! The first thing many think of for this theme. Always a good choice. But I choose not to go up, up and away. At least not today.
Cue The Fifth Dimension… “Would you like to ride in my beautiful balloon?” πΆ
Did you ready my mind? π
oh this is gorgeous. I have a balloon one myself coming up in a week or so – no as fabulous as yours though. I am fortunate I don’t have a height issue and so have travelled in one, the views were amazing and it is so quiet most of the time
It must be amazing, Becky. Now that we’re in the Southwest, I’d sometime like to see the balloons in, I think, Santa Fe, or one of the places where they have a great gathering of balloons. I’ve seen photos and it’s beautiful!
My balloon was one of about six and it was amazing, it must be incredible to be in a great gathering
I agree, but you’d certainly have to be in control of your balloon! π
You do . . although as i learnt when up in one they are unlikely to collide because they can only go as fast as the wind and so each, unless they find an unusual current, is going at the same speed and it is normally slow. The biggest risk is that one might fly up into another from underneath, but that also never seems to happen because balloonists are keeping an eye on everything around them and are in touch by radio.
The other thing is there is no sound of the wind because you are going with the wind – really is quite extraordinary
It’s pretty, but I’m with you I’d rather watch them from below than go up in one.
Have you ever seen a rally or race of balloons? That must really be something!
I have seen a rally. In Carson City they have one annually, but I don’t know if it’s happening this year yet. It was so neat. I’ve yet to post about it or work on any of the images.
I’ve always dreamed of riding in a hot air balloon. Someday…
You’ve got lots of time and I would imagine you can find somewhere to go up there in Texas.
I’ve always wanted to ride in an air balloon, but I this fear I’ll get up high and learn that I’m afraid of heights. Then I’d be in a pickle.
π I understand that!

That is one beautiful photograph of a balloon in flight.
It reminds me of the photographs my friend took at the Balloon Festival in New Mexico.
After her description, I wanted to go so badly. With the way things are, I think travel is
just a memory. LOVED this …

I’d love to see that festival or one like it. We’re close enough now that once Covid’s over/lessened, we can think about going there. I’ve seen photos and it’s amazing!
I know, it’s on my bucket list. I would never ride in one. My fear of heights would paralyze me. But my friend said the size of colors are spectacular. She was a photographer(94 now) and has awesome photos. We can dream … π π π
Neat shot!
I’m with you, I’d rather look up at it.
I’d love to go up in one but I’m not sure I could do it.
I went up once in a parasail. They tied it to a jeep, and drove along the beach.
I am now retired from such adventures.
Hee, hee. That also I understand!
