White feather

“Feathers fall; soft as a song, light as morning dreams.”
― Eirene Evripidou

We think of feathers as soft and lovely but during WWI in England, women gave white feathers to men not in uniform in an attempt to shame them into enlisting, using white feathers to signify cowardice. Other less negative meanings have included peace, pacifism, and courage. To me, this feather was a small, beautiful sighting as I went for a walk, another chance to be amazed at the way errant feathers cling to plants.

Interesting story. I love this feather image.

  3. I didn’t know that about feathers. I learned something new today. Thanks 🙂

I love the way you focus on the small things in your work and give them meaning. That quite a gift.

  5. A soft downy feather perhaps? I love finding feathers. Did you know it’s illegal to pick up and keep most feathers in the US? I didn’t until I started birding years ago.

  6. That is interesting! I think feathers are things of beauty 😊

  7. Yesterday there was a pure white feather in my path, and I smiled and thought of you and this post. So white feathers can also connect people!
White feathers, it is said, are also subtle signs from angels. ‘Verdad,’ I agree – my most profound experience was when I received a message that a dear older friend had died. When I returned home, one large white feather was on the dark-blue doormat at the entrance to the house (under a portico)… the next morning, another white feather, similar in size and shape, was on the outside of the windowsill of my bedroom. For sure it was Sara, saying goodbye before moving on.
Thanks for your post, which keeps sweet memories like that alive.
Have a good day and a good year, you, the walking angel to many!

A cowards feather…interesting bit of history, Janet!
Still, it’s a delicate piece of beauty. Lovely shot!

That’s nice – it looks very light.

    That is so beautiful

What do you think? I'd love to hear your thoughts on this, that or the other thing.
