Thursday Doors…beach-side trio

Walking along the path above the beach, I saw this trio of doors/gates at the bottom of a shabby chic apartment building. The building may need some love on the outside, but what price the ocean view?!!

Thanks to all of you who expressed sympathy, offered prayers, etc. on the passing of my mom. We’re thankful she went quickly and painlessly and she was ready to go. The people at the care home and the hospice staff were all wonderful. I found both solace and joy in the fact that although I was in California when she died, we were celebrating the arrival of our first grandchild (at the end of March) and the thread of life going on from her to the child. God is indeed good!

I did wonder how you felt about being away, but I’m sure she would have wanted you to celebrate something she couldn’t herself. My mother used always to say ‘one in, one out’ and it’s a very crude saying but remarkable how often it happens that way. It is the nature of life, after all. The little one will bring you so much joy, and you did your very best for Mum.

    • No one expected she would pass away so quickly after coming home from the hospital. I know she would have been happy to have me go and I told her about it before leaving and that I loved her and all of that. My dad, husband, and brother were all around the day she passed away as well.

  3. Lovely weathered doors!

Those certainly look like some fortified doors. Congrats on an upcoming first grandchild. Such a nice way to state that life goes on from generation to generation. I too was not near my mother when she died.

I’m certain that whatever repairs or renovations are made to this building will easily be worth the expense. Beach view in California? Yeah, worth the expense. Those door look like they have served well for many years. Thanks for taking the time to join us, Janet. Congratulations and our sympathy, once again.

Well Dan I got your comment for Janet again, This is Peggy from Peggy’sCountryLife blog. I seem to be getting a lot of other people’s replies to other blogger’s posts. I know Janet and you connect with your doors every Thursday.

      • Even though the reply went to you, it still shows up in the comment section of the post, just under your comment rather than in the main comment flow.

      • peggy's avatar peggy says:

Ok – I weill shut up about this. Was not sure you were getting your comments.

      • No need to shut up, Peggy. I don’t mind at all and I appreciate you thinking I was missing out on the comments. Just kind of funny that Dan did it once again. 🙂

      • peggy's avatar peggy says:

Now that I know you receive his comments all is fine. I should have realized you were getting them as long as I have been blogging.

      • It’s easy if you see the comment strand, not so easy when you just see the reply to your comment. I appreciate your concern, Peggy.

      • Thanks, Dan. Getting back into the swing and of course lots to take care of regarding Mom’s death, although my brother took care of many of the details with the funeral home.

    • I know Mom would have wanted me to go because there was nothing more I could have done for her and no one expected she would pass away that quickly. She was very pragmatic. 🙂

Now it seems I can’t reply to Peggy. I’m sorry to confuse the comments. I blame my iPad and my fat fingers for the error.

    • Even though the reply went to Peggy, it still shows up in the comment section of the post, just under her comment rather than in the main comment flow. I can see it and it’s not a problem. 🙂 You just missed the comment box.

  6. Good choice of doors, Janet. The metal one to the left of 1516 seems intriguing. A tip of the cap to the workers that cared for your mom.

Sorry to hear about your Mum and congratulations on the arrival of your new grandchild. Great doors.
    Best wishes,
    Rowena

  8. I know I’m late here but I’m so sorry about your mom. She must have been an amazing person to create you. I’m glad there’s new life to celebrate at the same time.

    • That’s so nice of you, Hannah. She was an amazing woman and she was so happy about the new great-grandchild on the way. I can’t wish she’d be here to see him because she had no quality of life by the time she died and was ready to go, but I’m happy she knew he was on the way.

  9. The doors have a great shape, and the view must be wonderful.

God is good. I’m glad the beat is going on with your almost here Grandchild! 🥰

    • It is quite a view and easy access to many shops, places to eat, etc., as well as being able to walk/bike for many miles along/above the ocean.

      God is indeed good. ❤

Fighting with the rust from the ocean air is a small price to pay for ocean front I say.

Sorry to hear about the loss of your mom. My condolences.

    Oh dear!
I’m very sorry to find out about your mom, Janet.
    May she rest in peace.
I recall about my grandfather, who passed away peacefully on 1st Feb 1995 and 4 days later, our family welcomed the birth of my Uncle’s baby girl.
Uzair, my son, was born exactly a year later after my grandmother passed away, whose wish of seeing my child wasn’t meant to be fulfilled.
    My condolences to you.

  13. I’m so sorry to hear of the passing of your mom, Janet. She is in a much better place where there is no suffering. I like these well worn doors, so much character! Also, congratulations on the expected birth of your first grandchild. That’s exciting!

    • Thanks all around, Brenda. We’re happy that Mo’s not in pain or having a terrible quality of life anymore. In fact, she’s having the best quality anyone could have!! ❤
