Tohono Chul featured cacti of all sorts but sometimes even a hardy cactus dies, sometimes leaving an intriguing looking skeleton such as this one.

How curious!
It’s pretty cool, isn’t it? π
Yes!
I often saw scenes like this in Arizona.
Saguaro skeletons are quite interesting too.
Yes they are. Love those Safuaro cactus.
It definitely looks prehistoric.
I think so too. π
wow, that’s fascinating!
It was fun to spot. π

Desert Cholla. I have some that came from Tucson in my display cabinet.
I love it.
Thanks for the info of the Desert.
that area is where my heart lives. π Every time I look out my window (in Ohio) I again ask WHY?
Isn’t it funny how a certain place captures your heart? We lived in Ohio for many years (my husband lived there most of his life before I met him) but the place of my heart is in Wyoming, even though we don’t live there, just go there in the summer.
It was love at first sight for me.
That’s so interesting, Janet. At first, I thought it was a shed snakeskin. I have one on my windowsill that I found in my garden, and there are lots of similarities. π
It does look a bit like that.
Cool! Very snake like.
It is, isn’t it. Thanks, Sarah.
janet
At first I thought it was a snake skin! How are you doing?
likewise!
It does look like a snakeskin, Janet. I’m doing well and thanks for asking. I think we’re all relieved and happy that Mom isn’t suffering anymore and that she home in heaven. Makes everyone’s lives so much better. π
Yes, I understand that. My mom went fast and I’m still trying to wrap my head around the fact that she was fine at our house for Christmas and dead three weeks later.
I understand that. β€οΈ
what an extraordinary oddity
I really enjoyed seeing this and others like it. π
π
Yes, interesting. At first I thought ……eeeeeee….. snakes!
I hope to never see a snake this size or with this many arms. π
It would be conjoined snakes!
Good point. That would be even worse.
Whew!!! Only dried out cactus!

Wow, that is really cool! I feel bad for anyone with a fear of holes that comes across it… But I love that texture.
Is there a word for a fear of holes, I wonder? π
Indeed! Trypophobia. I think if it often when I’m at the dentists office, staring at the grates in the ceiling that look like endless networks of holes. As if getting your teeth drilled into wasn’t bad enough, I feel for these people.
Wow! I had no idea there was one but I should have guessed there would be.
Janet, I had it pegged, but it is an odd-looking remnant. It’s perfect for this challenge!
I think theyβre very interesting. Have you ever been to Tohono Chul? Itβs lovely.
No, I’ll have to look that one up. π Wow a Botanical Garden. You know I love those. It’s in Tucson. This would be a perfect time to go, for sure. Maybe I can talk my hubby into a short trip down there. It looks fabulous.
Itβs a wonderful place. Marsha, and if you happen to have a membership at the Desert Botanical Garden in Phoenix, which we just got, itβs free with the reciprocal membership deal (as are hundreds of other gardens in the U. S.)
We just found out that our library gets free tickets to some of the museums around the state. Have you been to the Wickenburg Cowboy Museum. We loved that experience. It’s one of the better museums I’ve been to, and I’ve been to most of the Smithsonians in Washington DC. It rivals them on a much smaller scale.
We haven’t been to Wickenburg yet but since Rt. 66 runs through it, it’s on the list. The museum sounds great. I’ll have to check to see whether our library has tickets of that sort. That would be cool.
I’m so glad I got to tell you about somewhere new to you! You’re going to love it.
We haven’t seen that much of Arizona yet due to Covid, my husband’s work schedule, and taking care of my parents. So much to see as we get the chance.
Let me know when life frees you up some. It would be great to meet up with some of the AZ bloggers while you’re all still here. John Steiner lives her part time, too.
I was just thinking the same thing, Marsha. In a few weeks I should have more time and I can always get a day away. I’d love to meet and it would be fun to meet some other bloggers as well if that works.
Let me know.
Do you have a contact link on your blog?
Yes, in the menu, I think. Otherwise go to your comment section and all the email addresses are listed.
Found it and sent you a message with my email. π
Super, I’ll check it out.
Reminds me of coral, or snakeskin!
It probably looks more like coral than a snakeskin but cool either way.
[…] An odd skeleton […]
So beautiful and interesting, Janet. They make great subjects. I found the Cholla skeletons equally enticing at Joshua Tree recently. π
Cacti are fascinating…just don’t get too close. π
