Yesterday was a travel day, coming home from California and a badly-needed break. Bad news: I’m having grandson withdrawal. 🙂 Our daughter, grandson, and I started our last few hours together with a walk to Sweet Wheat for my last raspberry panna cotta, followed by a walk by the beach, then back to the apartment to load up my van, hug and kiss everyone, and venture out into the LA traffic. Everything went quite smoothly for the most part until I had an hour added to my arrival time when on the bottom part of Chiriaco Pass, traffic came to a halt due to some sort of emergency about five or six miles further up the road. Of course I knew nothing about it except that the zillion trucks and million cars were barely moving. I put in a couple of CD’s, sang along, and was thankful that the accident wasn’t further up, where 11 miles could have taken several hours.
Libraries of whatever size are favorite places of mine and here are two good-looking ones I found during my visit. This first one sports a definite beach vibe and needed more then just a front door view to appreciate the whole thing. Don’t you just love the door handle?
Although right above the beach, this library is less decorative yet still attractive. Unfortunately I didn’t have a book to leave, so I just took a photo rather than a book.
If you’d like to book more door time, check out Dan’s blog where doors from all over the world are on view. Dan’s our head door-braian although thankfully he doesn’t enforce the “quiet in the door-bary” rule!
I can sympathise on the grandson withdrawal symptoms, Janet. Expect you have the next visit in mind. Love those mini libraries.
I know we’ll be going again at the end of August but hopefully I can get out there before then. We’ll see. Lots to do with my father’s estate and other things before I can visit again.
At least you’re a drive away, so if it suits then you can 🤗💟
That’s true. It’s about 6 1/2 hours but certainly doable.
A-door-able 🙂
🙂 That they are, Patricia. Thanks for the visit and comment.
janet
They are certainly the fanciest ones I’ve seen. We have two near us and you don’t even have to leave a book though I always do.
I’m sure I could have just taken a book, but I plenty of my own right now and didn’t see any that I just had to have. 🙂
Cheers to your good visit and safe return. The fact that you killed time in traffic singing away tells me that you must be a patient person. Good choice of doors!
I’ve developed patience over many years, Frank, but it was either that or ruin my entire trip back with something that wouldn’t have helped anyway.
When you’re stuck in traffic, making the best of it with music is a good idea. I love little free libraries – these are great, Janet. I’m glad you enjoyed your visit, but I can understand how hard it must have been to leave. Have a great weekend.
We’re reading about awful heat out there. I hope you’re OK.
It’s certainly a jolt to come back to 110+/- after cool, foggy mornings and a high of maybe 75. Of course there’s a big difference in humidity but it’s still hot, hot, hot here. I’m planning to stay in today and get things done around the house. Right now I’m watering the outdoor plants, which takes quite a while. There’s a drip system but it’s broken and because it’s a rental, our landlady doesn’t want to pay for a new one, which I completely understand. But watering each plant for 20 minutes can take into the early afternoon if I start quite early.
I totally get grandson withdrawals! I hope you get another fix soon. I’m glad you made it home safely too.
That first little free library is wonderful, but I too like them all plain or fancy.
I like them all too. That first one is especially attractive and someone must have enjoyed putting it together.
What lovely libraries
Thanks, Sheree. I thought so too.
The libraries are so cute!
I love seeing them and these were quite nice.
So cute. There is a little library near the field where my son plays softball and I always forget to bring a book. Our library is having a book sale this weekend. I can’t wait. $10 for a bag of books!
Library sales are great although I’m trying not to get more books as I already have tons. I had to get rid of a lot before we moved, which was traumatic! 🙂
Understand the withdrawal grandson completely! Why is it that we as grandparents can enjoy the grands so much more, than we did our kids? (a rethorical question) Love these cut little libraries!
Because we get only the best parts. 🙂 Glad you enjoyed the libraries.
I love little lending libraries! At some point, we’re going to build one that matches our house! 🙂
My husband was going to have a friend of ours from church build one for me when we were in Illinois. I guess it’s a good thing he didn’t as we moved to Arizona.
🙂
Terrific doors! I think those little libraries are the coolest thing. Welcome back home. Hugs on the wing.
Thanks, Teagan. I love those libraries too.
A library and its doors are winners in my book regardless of size and cuteness.
I agree. I don’t really care what the doors of a regular library look like, just what’s inside.
I love those little libraries. There used to be one near where I lived 3 residences ago, and one building I lived in has one in the basement by the laundry room. Always something new to discover! (K)
I would imagine the one by the laundry room got a lot of use.
It did!
These are so cute. Sounds like you had a really nice trip.🙂
Pat
Thanks, Pat. I had an excellent trip.
The craftmanship on this lil book case is phenomenal. It’s the perfect setting for finding just the right book. Oh … I can sympathize with you. It’s always difficult to say good-bye to our grandkids … kids too. But, the memories will keep you heart warm until the next visit. 🤗
That first library is a masterpiece and just right for the beach. I have lots of good memories (and photos) to last me until the next visit and lots of updates from our daughter. 🙂
Little Free Libraries are the best! I love the surfing one, and the handle is wonderful!
That’s one of the best little libraries I’ve seen.
Those small libraries are lovely, great idea. Love your relaxed attitude towards the delay, there is nothing I can do about it, so I will 🎶 sing. I can understand the feeling of leaving the grandkids behind…
It was either relax or be completely furious for an hour or more so better to relax, something I wouldn’t always have been able to do. Fortunately, I didn’t have to be back at any certain time.
thank always helps if you are not on the clock to stay calm 🙂
