I’m sure I’m not the only one who recalls the day in 1986 when the Challenger space shuttle exploded barely over a minute after taking off. A few mornings ago while walking along the Strand in Hermosa Beach, I came across this memorial to all the crew as well as to astronaut Greg Jarvis of Hermosa Beach.

A sad day for our nation. I saw this on television and it was a devastating event.

I remember well, the boys were about to leave for school when the News cut in and they just showing it over and over again. Australia

We were driving to Oregon to visit the in-laws and had stopped overnight at a motel. We were in the lobby getting our complimentary morning coffee and watched it on the TV there. Very sad. Interestingly, we are on our way to Oregon again today only this time we are flying 🙂

  5. I remember it well. I was at work when the news came on. There wasn’t a dry eye, or sound in the company for a long time that day.

  6. Sad day. Thanks for the memoriam.

  7. I remember the time well, and McCauliffe is from NH.

I have that Polaroid moment thing as I was at the mall my second year of college and saw it on TVs there.

I was only eight years old when it happened, and growing up in a country far away, and yet I still recall my dread at seeing the footage on television, realising that it showed the moment people died, and thinking how terrible it must be for their families to watch…

Hi Janet – we were just in the space coast when two launches were scrubbed – and better that then taking chances and the challenger did come up in conversation – I was in school at the time and can recall
    The tv showing the news

    Enjoyed seeing the memorial posts
